Program Outcomes
PO1 Able to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering
specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2 Able to identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems
reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and
engineering sciences.
PO4 Able to conduct investigation into complex problems using research based knowledge and
research methods, including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and
synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
PO9 Able to communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering
community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective
reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear
instructions.
Course Description
The course is designed for the student who wishes to understand and learn about the exciting materials
developments which are affecting us all in today’s world. The course will introduce the structures and
properties of metals, ceramics, polymers (plastics), composites and materials in many engineering
applications. Students will also gain an appreciation for the processing and design limitations of materials
used in everyday applications.
