ROLE PROFILE

TITLE: Child Protection Specialist (ECHO)


TEAM/PROGRAMME: Child Protection LOCATION: Lashio. Northern Shan State
Specialist
Number of Position: 1 CONTRACT LENGTH: Fixed term
GRADE: NAT-3
CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week
or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country
programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police
checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Child Protection Specialist (CPS) will be responsible to provide technical support and guidance to project
staffs and implementing partners (SEA and TEI), programme planning and programme learning, and technical
monitoring of project progress.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Program Manager

Technical supervision: CPiE advisor

Direct Reports: Nil

Financial Approval: No budget responsibilities or financial approval

External Representation:
 Interpersonal contact regular and varied, involved negotiation, influencing kills, and representation at
District / Provincial level and donor / press visits

Travel: Frequent (over 10 days per month)


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

 Work closely with advisor to provide capacity building sessions to project team and implementing
partners on child protection and case management in collaboration with Case Management team
under Child Protection program
 Technical support to project staffs and partners for networking, developing and strengthening referral
guidelines and referral networks with service providers at assigned areas
 Provide capacity building sessions to project team and partners on community led child protection in
order to facilitate community led approach at project locations
 Provide feedbacks to the Program Manager in terms of needs for capacity building for project and
partner staffs as project wide
 Ensure all project data/documents are proper recorded, and support the analysis of data collected
through high quality reports by working closely with Program Manager and MEAL officer
 Working closely with Program Manager and MEAL Officer for Indicator Performance Tracking Tool
(IPTT).
 Regular coaching and mentoring to Project Officers to build the knowledges and skills regards to
overcome the challenges in project implementation, working through partners
 Travel regularly to the project sites to monitor the results of project delivery in coordination with
education project team members
 Develop tools and IEC materials by consultation and coordination with implementing partners
(materials which can support/help for the smooth learning of parents and children)
 Lead and organize a training on child protection to key stakeholder in the target areas.
 Coaching and Mentoring to facilitators and partner staffs in order to support them when apply
community led approach in the target areas
 Ensure information sharing protocols are known and adhered to within the team.
 Explore opportunities for improvement to, and/or expansion of existing initiatives, and/or other
initiatives.
 Ensure effective coordination within child protection and education program staffs and cross program
staff to implement ECHO program as one integrated project
 Ensure effective communication between the field team, regional team and PM regarding context,
security and programme achievements and concerns
 Liaise with local authorities and partners
 Assist PM for planning and reporting to donors by providing qualitative report in timely manner
 Assist PM in monitoring expenditure against budgets and the proper financial management of the
program by providing cost effective work plan regularly
 Any other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor
 Ensure all Save the Children policies and principles are upheld

in child safeguarding amongst staff members.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

 At least 4 years’ experience in Child Protection and related field


 Previous experience working directly with partners
 Bachelor Degree (3 years + education post-secondary school) or equivalent experiences
 Fluency English and Myanmar and (local language- Shan or Ta’ang) communication skills, both written
and verbal
 Willingness to travel to project locations (remote areas) and work in difficult environment according
to travel requirements
 Ability to create an environment which encourages project team and partners to motivates and learn
 Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working
relationships to deliver outstanding results for children
 Strong ability to work in a participatory way, strong facilitation skills, and strong ability for true and
empowering delegation
 An in depth understanding of Child Protection concern in Myanmar, and deep understanding of local
context in geographic areas
 Skills in networking and advocacy
 Willingness and capability to comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with
respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies, including the
Child Safeguarding Policy
 Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.

The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to
carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

 Be vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm in their personal and professional lives.

monitoring, etc.
