Make sure that the solutions are provided in the order given, and that you include the
problem number and question number with each solution.
Open up this file in SPSS and answer the following questions in the MS WORD
document described above.
a. Create a line chart comparing the means of the salaries over time. The x-axis
should be the graduation date, and the y-axis should be the mean starting salary.
b. Create a pie chart of the number of graduates from different colleges. Each slice
should represent a college.
c. Create two pie charts depicting the number of graduates from different colleges.
The charts should be split by gender. So, one pie chart for males, and one for
females.
d. Create a clustered pie chart comparing the male and female graduates in each of
the colleges. The x-axis should be the college, and the y-axis should be the count
of graduates.
How would you change the y-axis to be the percentage of graduates in each
college? Create the chart.
e. How many graduates were there from the college of Business Administration?
How did you come up with your answer?
Problem 2: The World in 1995
For this problem, you will be using the ‘World95.sav’ file, located in the directory
‘c:\Program Files\SPSS’.
Using the above file, come up with four questions about the data and use SPSS to find the
answers. You should have at least three charts and one table in your solution. You will be
graded on the quality of the questions.
Place the questions, any charts or tables that you used to find the answer the questions,
and any conclusions that you came to for each question in the MS WORD file.
a. Enter the data that you find into SPSS. You might find it simpler to copy the data
into an Excel spreadsheet then import that Excel spreadsheet into SPSS.
c. Copy the descriptive statistics to your MS WORD document (the same one that
you used in the previous problem) and discuss what the descriptive statistics tell
you about each player. Be as detailed as possible.
Place your Word document and the dataset created in Problem 3 in a folder called your
PUNET (e.g. khoj0332). To be considered on time, this folder must be placed in the
CS130 Drop Box by 6pm on the date in which the assignment is due. Remember,
answering questions out of order will result in a significant loss of assignment points.
