Learning Journal Unit 1

The document provides feedback on a learning journal entry. [1] It discusses what the student learned about basic mathematical notation and set theory, specifically the concept of a power set. [2] The discussion and assignments were helpful for mastering new information by seeing what others learned. [3] The student found the concept of a power set initially challenging but was able to understand it better with help from different sources.

Learning Journal Feedback.

In this unit, we have learned about basic mathematical notation and set theory.  For writing your
learning journal entry, consider these questions:

1. What information did you not know before

Set theory is one that we have been learning even from primary schools, but one thing I have
never known about is the power set, and is a set of all the subset of a set.

2. What information was contrary to what you believed

From the basic mathematical notation and set theory that we have learnt in this unit nothing
was/is contrary to what I have known and believed before.

3. How was the Discussion and /or assignment helpful in mastering new information

The discussion has been very helpful because you get to see what other colleagues have
researched and found, therefore you try to check it out and in the process you learn simpler
methods of mastering subject.

4. What, if any, material made you want to learn more about it

I would definitely pursue it, it is similar to the discussions we have. When you see that what your
friend has put out might lead you to newer information or methods, you definitely hold on to it
and study.

5. What did you find challenging

As I earlier own mentioned that the power set was newer information in set theory, it was a bit
challenging to assimilate not until I got help from different sources and how it works.

6. What did you realize about you and your learning style

I realised that as a student newer information will come by and it depends on me to keep
studying so I can get the concepts behind. I think this is the learning style that will help me
achieve my goals at the end of the day.

7. How did you feel about the feedback you got from your peers

I must say that the feedback I got was great and encouraging, it really shed light on my work and
gave me a sense that what am doing is right. I feel I am encouraged.
