Governor Hermilando “Dodo” I.

Mandanas

Intro of the Guest Speaker

A blessed and pleasant morning everyone. This day is another finish line, but a new start for a

new track. There are so many hours in a day and many students have to juggle their studies,

extra-curricular activities and even time for their families. Countless times I’ve heard students

say “Ayoko na, pagod na ako”, but they still remained focus on their mindset to finish their

papers. And in relation with the theme “Facing Globalization for a Productive Future” is

connecting to all of us especially the dear graduates. You will simply have to face the reality

and simply make yourself do things that may not come naturally and often it won’t be fun. As

what Rey Constantino have said “Struggle is the essence of life, whether of an individual or a

society.” Keep on struggling for it is ourselves that will greatly benefit from it.

On behalf of everyone present here, ladies and gentlemen, it’s my honor to introduce you to

our guest speaker in this commencement exercises who believe that education is the greatest

wealth that anyone can hope to acquire. For him the true sense of education is the teaching

and learning process. He took his elementary education from Aplaya Elementary School in

1955 and his secondary education from Saint Bridget's College in 1959. He finished his

Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree as consistent Dean's Lister - First Honor at De La

Salle University. He then became a University Scholar at the University of the Philippines and

fulfilled his Masters in Business Administration, where he graduated honor roll. In deep

realization of his strength and talent he pursued an Honorary Degree as Doctorate in

Humanities at Batangas State University. He also served as Associate Dean of School of

Commerce from 1967 to 1969, Chairman of Department of Accountancy from 1968 to 1969,
and a Member of the Board of Trustees from 1979 to 1985 in the De La Salle University. After

these he started working for different private sectors as a supervisor, executive assistant,

delegate and managing director. He then conquered the world of politics. His working for the

government began when he served as the chairperson of the Regional Development Council

of Region IV. Governor Mandanas served as the 1st General Manager of the Human

Settlements Development Corporation under former President Ferdinand Marcos. From 1995

to 2004, he served as Governor of the Province of Batangas and concurrently became

President of Federation of Regional Development Council of the Philippines. His drive in

politics continuously gone strong that made him served as Regional Peace and Order Council

(Region IV-A) from 1995 to 2001 and from 2003 to 2004 and CALABARZON Coordinating

Council from 2001 to 2004. Through the years of hardwork and dedication to his career he

received several huge awards, citations and achievements. The three of the many awards he

had been given were the 2002 Most Outstanding Governor of the Philippines, 2006 Dangal ng

Pilipinas Awardee and 2012 PHILCONSA’s Medal of Wisdom and Courage Awardee

He may not admit this but his service is sought by many as he works with compassion. He is a

man with a heart for service. He has been the voice of the Batangueños and most especially

the students. I don’t want to take this any further, so let us all welcome our guest speaker Gov.

Hermilando Mandanas.
