1. Why have Sanjay and Sophia failed to foster a safety culture in their workplace?
What specifically acts to undermine that change?
Sanjay and Sophia failed to foster a safety culture in their workplace because the already built up
culture of the organization is weak and I have a concern on their knowledge about their
organization in detail first. Their weak organizational culture don’t show what is appropriate and
inappropriate and in this case even the employees pass written taste about the safety issues but
they failed to practice it actually and they are doing and developing inappropriate safety culture
within the organization. So, only giving training is not enough. They shouldn’t do a detailed
study about every aspect of their organizational culture to get a profound knowledge about the
safety issues of the employees. The other thing is they didn’t put a strong norms and laws which
is shared by the organization and the employees to identify wright and wrong acts in the
organization. The last reason for their failure is that even if there is a culture in the organization,
it is lawless culture which leads the employees to disrespect the safety issues of the organization.
2. Will their new strategy (putting up posters) work? If yes, why? If no, why not?
NO. Because, still the already built culture of the organization is weak so they put the posters
everywhere they are not willing to apply it. Putting the posters is the same strategy as giving the
safety training and all the employees have knowledge about the safety issues which they have
shown by passing the written taste. But the employees didn’t forget to apply safety issues in the
place even the poster is there, the problem is related with ethics. The organization did not put a
strong ethical safety culture for the employees to identify what is appropriate/right or
inappropriate/wrong behavior for acting responsibly for the common good which is bounded by
rewards and punishments. Otherwise putting posters is not a feasible strategy for safety issues
because the employees already knows about the safety according to their training results.
3. What would they have to do to institute meaningful change in the safety culture at
this organization?
In order to come up with meaningful change in the safety culture of the organization the
following tasks must be undertaken:-
They should do a detailed study about every aspect of their organization culture to get a
profound knowledge about the safety culture and workplace existing culture of the
employees to come up with meaningful change of the organization.
The safety culture of the organization is taken as a weak. So that they must re -build a
strong and supportive safety culture with high ethical standards to put a positive influence
on the employees’ behavior rather than only preparing safety trainings in the
organization.
In order to bring a meaningful change in the safety culture the training given must
incorporate ethical issues which will show the employees what is right and wrong act to
undertake within the workplace. So to come up with the needed change the organization
must mix the safety training with Ethical issues together to be fruitful organization which
have a strong safety culture.
They have to build a safety culture as a guideline for acting responsibly for the common
good.
1. The manager should put a visible culture which reward for the right acts and punishment
for the wrong did or unethical employees of the organization.
2. Appraise the organizational safety code of ethics which shows the organization’s core
values and ethical safety rules that employees must follow.
3. Must communicate ethical expectations with the employees.
I recommend the employees must re- build their workplace safety culture for their common
benefit. They should use their strong existing culture by modifying in to ethical safety culture
which shows ethical and unethical behavior within the organization.
