Sheet#3 CH

This document contains questions about analyzing circuits that use zener diodes. It includes 4 circuits labeled Figures 1 through 4 and asks questions about determining minimum input voltages, adjusting resistor values, output waveforms, permissible load currents, load regulation percentages, and calculating resistor and load values. The purpose is to practice analyzing circuits that employ zener diodes as voltage regulators.

1) In Fig. (1):
a) Determine the minimum input voltage required. Assume an ideal zener diode with
IZK = 1.5mA and VZ = 14V.
b) Repeat (a) with ZZ = 20Ω and VZT = 14V at 30mA.

Fig. (1)
2) In Fig. (2):
a) To what value must R be adjusted to make IZ = 40mA? Assume VZ = 12V at 30mA and
ZZ = 30Ω.
b) Draw is the output waveform if a 20V peak sinusoidal voltage is applied in place of the
dc source.

3) In Fig. (3); VZ = 5.1V at IZT = 49mA, ZZ = 7Ω, IZK = 1mA and IZM = 70mA:
a) Determine the minimum and maximum permissible load currents.
b) Find the load regulation expressed as a percentage.

4) In Fig. (4); VZ = 15V at IZ = 17mA, IZK = 0.25mA, ZZ = 14Ω and PD(max) = 1W:
a) Determine VOUT at IZK and at IZM.
b) Calculate the value of R that should be used.
c) Determine the minimum value of RL that can be used.
