Nikon Camera, Sensor Manufacturer, and Designer.
(As far as I know) Nikon does not make Camera sensor themselves, they design it
and some other company manufactures the sensors for them, but Nikon can call
these sensors their own for some cameras.

Does shutter count really matter?
The shutter count can tell a lot about the camera, generally, the shutter count is to let you know if
the camera has seen little or much use, It’s to give you an idea of the condition of a camera.
When I’m looking for used DSLR cameras for sale on the web I have noticed that the average
user uses his DSLR camera around 10 – 30k Shutter count before selling it.
If a camera has 10 – 30K shutter clicks, the person probably hasn’t used the camera
much really, whereas if a camera has 150,000 – 300.000 shutter clicks it’s being used all the
time, It’s kind of like mileage on a used car, It is an indication of how much the camera has
being used VS how old it is.
Nikon estimated shutter actuation’s numbers are mathematical… Average …and not an exact
number, the actual amount may be higher or lower, you basically need to wait and see how much
your camera can do.
The life expectancy, the MTBF (mean time between failures) is for example 150.000. actuation,
that means the average number of clicks on which Nikon expects the shutter to fail is 150.000.
Which means some fail after 10.000. some after 300.000. So there is no reason to expect your
shutter will fail.
I have read many blog posts that most Nikon DSLR cameras go way over this estimated average
numbers.
When the shutter mechanism dies on Nikon DSLR cameras the shutter replacement cost around
$400-600. it can be more or less.
How much does the shutter count when shooting video?
I have been reading about how much the shutter will count when shooting video, as far as I
know, it’s one shutter count on each video.
How to find the shutter count on my camera.
I use Photoshop to check out the shutter count on my camera, but many people use a website
called camerashuttercount.com (How to use that website) you take the last photo that you took
with your camera and uploaded to the website and they will give you your shutter count number.
If you have Photoshop, take the last picture you took with the camera and open in Photoshop, as
soon as the photo opened in Photoshop click on File, next click File info, there you choose Raw
Data and look for Image Number.
Stories of high camera shutter count.
In the first blog post I found a Nikon D7000 camera that had taken 506.861 clicks and in the
same blog post another Nikon D7000 user with 410.163 shutter count. This is very impressive, I
took a screen photo of one of his Flickr photo Show EXIF info, see next two pictures below.
On many blog posts I found people talking about their camera has taken between 200.000 to
300.000 K, and we’re still working fine, the camera they were talking most about are Nikon D80
– D70 – D90 – D700 and etc, these were old blog posts.
In another blog post that I found, people were talking about the knew somebody who has taken
over one million pictures on their Nikon D800 – D800E cameras, these cameras were used for
taking time-lapse photos.
So I guess that Sports photography – Time Lapse photography and Hyperlapse photography is
going to eat up your low camera shutter number, but that’s ok just learn as much as you can and
take photos all the time.
