Q no 1: What is a mountain? List the important features of mountain?
Ans: A mountain is a large landmass that rises above the surrounding land in a limited area,
usually in the form of peak. The highest point of a mountain is called a peak or a summit.
The different features of a mountain are as follows:
A. The mountains have a extreme harsh climate and its peak is covered with snow for
almost through out the year. As a result, there is very little or no vegetation.
B. The mountains are generally very thinly populated.
C. The mountains are a source of many rivers.
D. Mountains form a natural barrier against the hot and cold winds.
Q no 2: Write two features of a plateau?
Ans: The two features of a plateau are as follows:
 A Plateau is a highland with a flat top.
 A plateau has steep slopes.
Q no 3: In which stage of the river are waterfalls and rapids found?
Ans: In the upper or young course of a river the waterfalls and rapids are found.
Q no 4: How are plains formed?
Ans: Plains are formed by rivers that rise in the mountains and flow down. In the process, rivers
carry sand and silt along and deposit them on river banks. Over a period of times, plains are
formed by these deposits.
Q no 5. What is a delta?
Ans: A delta is an area of low, flat land shaped like a triangle, where a river splits and spreads
out into several branches before entering the sea.
Q no 6: Why plains are thickly populated.
Ans: The plains are extremely fertile and is very good for agriculture. It is easy to build railways
and roadways, which to the growth of cities and towns.
