UNIT 2

CITIZENSHIP TRAINING

Introduction

The Filipino value system refers to the collection of values that has traditionally been
important to most Filipinos throughout their lives. It contains its own unique collection of cohesive
ideologies, moral codes, ethical standards, etiquette, and social and personal ideals promoted by
its society. However, as in any culture, based on faith, upbringing and other variables, the values
that a person holds sacred will differ. The distinct value system of Filipinos, as a general
description, is mainly rooted in personal alliance systems, especially those centered on kinship,

Presentation of Contents

Filipino values are commonly held beliefs that make the identity of the Filipino people
important for certain activities, relationships, goals and feelings. It is called the "Filipino values
system" when these Filipino values coalesce and mesh in a mutually supportive system. The
Filipino myths and faith are the essence of the Filipino values, while the frameworks are the oral
and written Filipino practices, churches, holy places, temples and mosques.

Family closeness and unity (pagpapahalaga sa pamilya), courtesy (use of po and opo),
hospitality (tuloy po kayo), dept of gratitude (utang na loob), which is subjective and emotional in
Filipino encounters.

Many optimistic characteristics define Philippine culture. Strong religious faith, reverence
for authority, and high regard for love proprio (self-esteem) and smooth relationships are among
these. The philosophical foundation of such Filipino ideals as social acceptance (pakikisama, amor
propio, economic stability, pagmamay-ari) and faith in God (paniniwala sa Diyos, Bathala o
Maykapal) is the complex openness of man to nature and the world, one's fellow man and God.
Strong personal confidence allows Filipinos to face great difficulties and unpredictable risks in
ensuring that "God will take care of things
