1. Grouting Procedure

 Insert the hose to the bottom of the sonic tube and water will be filled to the
sonic tube hole.
 Provide high pressure air to the sonic tube, through the hose of air compressor.
 Due to the high pressure air, water will come out and tube hole will be clean.
 After cleaning the sonic tube hole, grout will be filled from the bottom, with the
help of grout mixer and grout pump.
 Approximately 33 liters of yield volume are obtained by mixing 50Kg of ULTRATEC
OPC cement as per the proposed mix proportion.

5.1 Tests and Testing Procedures

a. Workability Test

The proportioning of ingredient of grout is governed by the require performance of grout in 2

states, namely the plastic and the hardened states. If the plastic grout is not workable, it cannot
be properly placed and compacted. The property of workability, there-fore, becomes of vital
importance.

We use cone method, according to the BS EN 445:2007 to check workability. The fluidity of grout
expressed in seconds, is measured by the time necessary for a started quantity of grout (1L) to
pass through the orifice of the cone, under stated condition.

Apparatus

The following apparatus is required for the test.

1. Cone of the dimensions given in the Figure-02.

2. Stopwatch showing time to 0.1s.
3. Graduated cylinder of minimum 1L capacity and with a diameter of approximately 60mm.
4. Thermometer.

Test Procedure

1. Preparation
Mount the cone with its axis vertical and its largest diameter uppermost and support
firmly in position. During the test prevent the cone from vibrating. Place the cylinder
under the cone outlet. All surfaces of the cone shall be clean and shall be dampened so
that the surfaces are moist but without free water. Close the lower cone orifice.

4
2. Procedure
Pour the grout to fill the conical section of the cone. The grout shall be poured
sufficiently slowly to prevent a build-up of air. Open the lower cone orifice and at the
same time start the stopwatch. Measure the time taken to the nearest 0.5 s, for 1L of
grout to run in to the cylinder. The grout shall be kept agitated while waiting further
testing if required.

Expected flow-ability should be less than 15.0 s per 1L. According to the BS EN 447:2007

b. Compressive Strength Test

It is one of the most importance properties of grout and influences many other describable
properties of the hardened grout. The mean compressive strength required at a specific age,
usually 28 days, determine the nominal water –cement ratio of the mix. The other factor
affecting the strength of grout in a given age and cured at a prescribed temperature is the
degree of compaction. In order to measure the compressive strength, 06 numbers of test cubes
will be cast from the fresh grout.

Description Testing Sequence Total No of Cubes

Per day 7 Days - 3 6
28 Days - 3

Mould size 150mm * 150mm *150mm

Expected Strength after 7 Days 40Mpa
