Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that I submit the 2010 Community Hospice of Texas Annual
Report for your review. As with all reports of this nature, we strive to provide you
with a glimpse of the work we accomplished during the previous twelve months.
While we are extremely proud of all our achievements this past year, we realize we
could not have reached our goals without your help and support. We are deeply
grateful.

During 2010, Community Hospice of Texas reached many milestones. The

organization:
• attained the highest patient census in our history, providing unparalleled care to
over 3,500 individuals in our service area;
• provided care to a record number of charity care patients;
• completed extensive renovations to the Hospice House at Huguley including the
addition of an outdoor memorial garden; and
• initiated programming efforts designed to support Veterans and their families

While these milestone moments took a great deal of our time and energy, I am happy to report that our
focus remained, as always, on our patients and their families. Our Family Satisfaction Surveys confirm that
satisfaction levels for delivery of care have never been higher.

As we move forward with our many initiatives, it is my hope that you will continue to provide the financial
support we will need to meet increasing demands for hospice care. Our charity care needs will increase
due to an aging population and stressful economic times. We will need your ongoing support to meet those
needs.

In closing, I want to express again my sincere appreciation for your commitment to the Mission of Community
Hospice of Texas. I know that working together we can continue to provide our community with the highest
possible quality of hospice care services.

Volunteer Hours
Community Hospice of Texas considers volunteers to be an integral
part of our program. Our volunteers are caring individuals, from all
arenas of life, who want to serve the community by providing support
to end-of-life patients and help their families in a variety of ways. Vol-
unteers assist with various needs, such as direct patient care, interpret-
ers, bereavement, administrative support and community services.

& Community Outreach

Bereavement A Child’s Wish

Community Hospice of Texas considers helping family members and
friends of patients an essential part of our mission. Bereavement ser-
vices are available to family members for 13 months following the death
of a loved one. Our services include grief support meetings, lunch club
events, memorial services, bereavement contacts by telephone and
monthly newsletters. During 2010 hundreds of families received encour-
agement and socialization opportunities through these programs.

Major Renovations
Community Hospice of Texas
at Huguley

In the Spring, we completed extensive renovations to the Hospice House at Huguley. We added a large dining
space for families to gather along with new sitting areas. These new features will give families the comforts of
home.

Our doctors and clinicians have a new workstation for documentation and clerical work. The porte cache at
the entrance also has a new look. The arbor was replaced over the fountain which gives definition to the new
memorial brick garden.

This past fall we will begin construction on our

new memorial brick garden that will be in the
front of the property. Approximately 1500 new
bricks will be laid and new landscaping have been
installed. This will be the finishing touch to our
overall project.

This space was created to give tranquility to fami-

lies as they enter the house. Families are able to
purchase memorials for loved ones. This will be a
place of honor for reflection and future ceremo-
nies.

New Programs

Making crucial choices is often a challenge for people with advanced or chronic illnesses. Having the right
information at the right time may greatly improve quality of life.

In a step-by-step, individualized process, the Pathways program provides education and guidance during this
important time. We have developed the program with 7 components:

• Communication
• Defining Quality of Life
• Coping Strategies
• Practical Issues
• Emotional
• Spiritual
• Advance Directives

Pathways sessions can be provided in the comfort of the home, the hospital, or another agreed upon location,
depending on the patient’s and family’s need.

Pathways is covered by some insurance companies. Please contact our office for more information. Our goal is to
partner with physicians and hospitals to find patients that would benefit from this program. This program will help us
accomplish our mission to provide compassionate end-of-life care.

z Veterans’ Hospice Program

Community Hospice of Texas is proud to announce their new program to help our nations heroes with end of life
challenges. Our mission is to improve veterans access to hospice and palliative care and to provide quality services.
We are working with other veteran services and community organizations to ensure that excellent care at the end
of life is available for U.S. veterans and their families.

As human beings, we share some common experiences as death approaches. However, veterans may have even
more complex needs, especially combat soldiers and POWs who have faced the grim realities of death in a very
dramatic way. Veterans may also be coping with unresolved grief or survivor guilt having witnessed traumatic deaths
and injuries that may color how they come to terms with their own death. We can offer customized services for any
veteran.
