This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming
their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their
needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and
accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner
is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and
skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other activities
included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not
hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are
not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and
gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do

This module was designed and written with you in mind. The scope of this module
permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language used
recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow
the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be
changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.
Before we proceed in the lesson proper, let us test your prior knowledge about this
topic by answering the questions below.

What’s In
Our technology as of this time are become a highly advance, even preparing
some task we rely on computer as part of our daily needs. Before, artist are busy
planning thinking of what is the best design to be developed in order to convince the
client, they even prepare it for a lot of time. But today and for the future this task
become easy and less time and effort no more paper, time and effort to be wasted.
Technical drawing on the other hand is usually done for the purpose of conveying
technical information, or illustrating concepts and the emphasis is more on making
sure the information, measurements, and content of the drawing is accurate and
correct versus mechanical drawing. Technical drawing is sometimes done using
AutoCAD application.
This lesson is to enable the student to prepare and to familiarize himself with
the different things needed in operating the CAD software and the computer
hardware.
A.THE HARDWARE
System Unit – The main part of a microcomputer, is sometimes called the chassis.
It includes the following parts: motherboard, microprocessor, memory chips, buses,
ports, expansion slots, and cards.
Sample Keyboard
Monitor – it has a screen that displays information, such as the instruction you send
to your computer and the information and results from your computer sends back
after interpreting your instruction.
Sample Monitor
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) – it is known as a hard drive. A storage device that is installed
inside the computer. The hard drive is used as permanent storage for data. In a
Windows computer, the hard drive is usually configured as the C: drive and contains
the operating system and applications.
Optical Drive – is a storage device that uses lasers to read data on the
optical media. There are three types of optical drives: Compact Disc (CD), Digital
Versatile Disc (DVD) and Blu-ray Disc (BD).
Optical Drive
Sample Mouse
Digitizer Tablet – is a graphics drawing tablet used for sketching new images or
tracing old ones. It is also called a "graphics tablet," where the user writes or draws
on the surface of the device with a wired or wireless pen or puck. Often, mistakenly
called a mouse, the puck is officially the "tablet cursor."
Sample of Printer
Plotter – an output device that can produce better quality drawings as compared to
the printer, however, the speed of plotter is generally slower than a printer.

A. SOFTWARE
The software is the set of programs that make a computer run. Opposite to
hardware, the software is an intangible part of a computer. They are sets of
instructions that tell the computer what to do to come up with the desired result.
The software can be categorized into two main groups: operating system software
and application software.
Application Software
The application software also called programs, has a specific use or task to
perform such as AutoCAD for Architectural drawings and layouts, Lotus 1-2-3
for business and marketing, Adobe Photoshop for image processing, and so on.
Computer-aided design has been around since 1964. However, it was not
broadly used until 1982, when the CAD system such as AutoCAD became accessible
on microcomputers. ACAD software uses either vector-based graphics to show the
objects of traditional drafting, or may also produce faster graphics showing the
realistic images of the designed objects.
CAD may be used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D) space;
or curves, surfaces, and solids in three-dimensional (3D) space. CAD is avital
industrial art widely used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding,
and aerospace industries; industrial and architectural design; prosthetics; and many
more. CAD is also widely utilized to produce computer animation for special effects
in movies, advertising, and technical manuals.
AutoCAD
An AutoCAD is a commercial product made by Autodesk, with many versions,
including one called AutoCAD Architecture. AutoCAD Architecture has purpose-built
features specifically designed for architectural drafting. In addition to design tools
for initial architectural conceptualization, it offers tools to make building renovations
faster and easier. The productivity tools include those that reflect the actual design
of walls and other structures. AutoCAD can maintain precise dimensional spacing
among components such as walls, beams, columns, and doors. AutoCAD
Architecture offers a library of pre-built components to help speed up and automate
the design and construction process.
Starting an AutoCAD
There are many ways of starting the AutoCAD program. It would depend on
your preferences the way you want to start. Follow each of the steps below:
1. From the Start Menu.
- Click Start >Look for AutoCAD Folder>Double click on AutoCAD
Architecture from the Windows Program Manager
Double
click
this.
2. From a desktop shortcut or quick launch toolbar. - Double-click the AutoCAD icon
from your desktop.
