1. The document describes a laboratory activity to validate Ohm's Law using various resistance values. Students will use resistors, batteries, and a multimeter to measure voltage, current, and calculate resistance in different circuits. 2. Ohm's Law states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points, and inversely proportional to the resistance between them. The key equations relate these variables: V=IR, I=V/R, R=V/I. 3. Students will perform measurements for 20 circuits, calculate values, and determine the percentage error between calculated and measured currents to evaluate their understanding of Ohm's Law.

Learning Activity No. 4

Title: Ohm’s Law

I. Objective:
At the end of the laboratory activity, the students should be able to:
1. Familiarized the different parameters in Ohm’s Law
2. Validate ohm's law using a various resistance value
3. Observe the effect of increasing resistance on the current

II. Materials, Instrument and Software Simulation Needed

20 pcs of 1/4 watts resistor with different value
Analog Multi-Tester
9 volts Battery
2 pcs 1.5 v Battery
Bread Board
Connecting Wire
NI Multisim

III. Introduction:

DC circuits are circuits with a DC power source. Most books start with DC circuit to explain most
of the concepts in electrical engineering like ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s laws. Then in advanced
chapters the same concepts that are studied in DC can be applied on AC circuits. The first
concept in electrical engineering is the relation between current, voltage and resistance.

Ohm’s Law

Ohm's law state that for a given resistor the current and voltage are directly proportional
according to the relation
V
R
I
Where
V = Voltage across the resistor in volts (V)
I = Current passing through the resistor in Ampere (A)
R = Resistance of the resistor in Ohms (Ω)

For a fixed resistor, this law can be used to study the effect of changing the current on the
voltage. If the current is increased the voltage will increase and vice versa. On the other hand,

for a fixed current the law can be used to study the effect of changing the resistance on the
voltage. If the resistance is increased the voltage will increase and vise-versa.

The law can be rewritten as

In this form for a fixed resistance it can be used to study the effect of changing the voltage on
the current. If the voltage is increased the current will increase and vice versa. For a fixed
voltage which is the case in real life, If the resistance is increased the current will decrease and
vise-versa.
Finally, the law can be rewritten as

In this form resistor can be found if we know the voltage and the current. It’s used for design
purposes when we want a certain value of current to pass at a certain voltage.
One way to memorize this rule to have this diagram in mind.

33.3333%
V

33.3333%

33.3333%
I R

And to find any one of them you rewrite the equation as follows:

V =I ×R
Example 1

For the circuit below calculate the current.

Because the voltage source is directly connected to the resistor, the voltage of the resistor is the
same as the voltage of the voltage source (V = E).

I=?

V E 10 V
I    3.33 mA
+ R R 3 k
E=10 V R= 3 K V
