Soilens to perform 10-ton mechanical cone penetration tests (CPT) at the location of temporary red-soil-fill working. platforms intended to facilitate the construction of a connecting bridge to the proposed Patimban Port at Patimban Beach in Subang, West Java, Indonesia. The investigation work was coordinated by the project manager Joko Dwi Yantoro and carried out in accordance with Service Agreement No.: WP/PTBP3/KOM/ P2K/19/VII1/2020 dated 19 August 2020 issued by Wika-PP Joint Operation to PT. Soilens. This report presents the findings from the completed CPTS as well as the analysis covering the subsurface characterization and soil bearing capacity. ‘The CPTs have been completed and was conducted on 25 and 26 of August 2020. The completed field works included four (4) mechanical CPTs. This report includes the following, information: Site location and description * Discussion of field investigation "CPT graphs "Subsurface characterization and * Soil bearing capacity The findings given in this report are based on the site conditions at the time of the investigation work and on the assumption that the information obtained from the CPT test is representative of the conditions at the site. 2 SCOPE OF WORKS Four (4) mechanical cone penetration tests (CPTs) using a 10ton-capacity penetrometer * Final Report containing the CPT findings and soil bearing capacity analysis. 3 SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION ‘The proposed Patimban Port Terminal, which will be developed on a 350-Ha reclamation land, will be connected to an access road by a 900m-long bridge. The project site is located near Patimban Beach as shown in Figure 1. The CPTs were performed at four temporary working platform intended to facilitate the equipment for pilling and pier-pile-cap construction, Each working platform is made of red-soil fill of about 1.5 to 2 meter thick, The relative positions of investigated sites with respect to Patimban Beach are shown on Google ‘maps in Figure 1. The position of CPT points are plotted on Google maps in Figure 2. The photograph showing the location of the construction site and its surrounding can be seen in Figure 3. The works were coordinated by Field Coordinator Insan and performed by operator Untung Suparman. ‘The actual positions of CPT points are shown in Figure 2. Cone penetration test (CPTs) were carried out using a 10-ton capacity penetrometer. ‘The test was conducted by CPT operator Untung Suparman. A mechanical cone penetrometer tip supplied with friction sleeve (Begemann friction cone) was used. The cone tip has a 60° point angle with a projected area of 10cm?. The cone friction sleeve has a surface area of 150cm*. The cone was connected to a series of steel rod and advanced hydraulic piston powered by a diesel engine, Cone and total (cone plus sleeve) resistances were recorded at 20-cm intervals. The penetration termination criteria at this site is either the total load required to push the cone has exceeded the penetrometer capacity of 10 ton (=100KN) or the penetration has reached a maximum depth of 11 meter. In our case all CPTs were terminated at a the maximum penetration depth of 11 meter. The coordinates, ground elevations, date of test, final sounding depths, and cone resistance of each CPT point are listed in Table 1. ‘The CPT result is presented in a graph showing the variation with depth of the cone resistance, sleeve friction, total resistance, and friction ratio. The reported CPT results have been corrected by the accumulated weight of the inner rods from the tip to the topmost rod. The test results were then processed by a computer software called CPeT-IT (Geologismiki, 2007) to infer the soil type behavior and soil parameters according to procedures recommended by Robertson, et al. (2010). The CPT graph is included in Appendix B. ‘Table 1 Summary of Cone Penetration Tests Program CPT Point Coordinates Ground Date Sounding | Cone End No No Easting Northing Elevation | Performed Depth | Resistance {moter trnetery__| (meter) | (ODIMMIYYY) | (meter) | (MPa) 1 | CPT-P.01 | 820,795.273 | 9,309,517.065 | +1.654 (25/8/2020 14 0.88 2 | CPT-P.02 | 820,800,664 | 9,309,563.074 | +1.545 26/8/2020 4 0.50 3 | CPT-P.03 | 820,830,040 | 9,309,589.795 | +1.635 25/8/2020 114 0.50 4 | CPT-P.04 | 820,843.392 | 9,900,626.172 | +1.455 26/8/2020 14 0.58 Propared by PT.Soiens 3Final Report Revision 00, ‘Cone Penetration Test for Connecting Bridge Fil Area September 2020 Wika PP Joint Operation dob No. 4141, 5 SUBSOIL CONDITION AND PROFILE, 5.1 Soil Behavior Types ‘The interpretation of soil behavior type from CPT data is made using the classification method developed by Robertson et al. (2010) which is implemented in a computer program called CPeT-IT. Robertson et al. (2010) have prepared a soil behavior type (SBT) chart for this classification purposes as shown in Figure 4. This chart classify the soils based on the cone end resistance and the ratio between local sleeve friction and cone end resistance, The example of interpreted soil layering from CPT-P.01 is shown in Figure 5. Subsurface Soil Profile A subsurface cross section prepared through CPT-P.01 to CPT-P.04 is shown in Figure 6 and included in Appendix C. The subsurface soils predominantly consist of very soft to soft clays (Soil Unit 1). The fill layer, with a thickness of about 1.5 to 2 meter, has various consistency from very soft to stiff (Sub units 1-1 to 1-3). The top 40 to 60 em-thick of the fill has relatively high cone end resistances (6 - 80 kg/cm?) probably due to the densification by the traffic of heavy equipment above the ground. Below the fill there are very soft to soft clays down to the end of penetration depth at 11 meter. 6 ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATION 6.1 Design Soil Parameters ‘The undrained shear strengths for each soil layer are derived by using CPet-IT v.2.3.1.9 software and listed in Tables 4 to 7. Also included in the tables are the derived Young's elastic modulus. Wika-PP Joint Operation the red-soil-fill is under construction when this report is being prepared. The CPT tests were performed above fill surface to estimate the soil stability due to vehicle load. The maximum vehicle load that is safe against bearing capacity failure is calculated using a simplified general shear failure formula for saturated cohesive soils as shown in the equation below. Nes Yoo SE where ioxt = allowable vehicle load Ne rearing capacity factor = 5.14 for clay subsoil indrained shear strength of subgrade FS = safety factor = 1.25 during construction (short term condition) The undrained shear strength of the uppermost clay layers (subgrade) varies in the range of about 28 to 37kPa (see Tables 4 to 7). For the purpose of determining the safe vehicle load that can be placed on the fill surface we use the average undrained shear strength of 1.5 to 2-meter thick of fill layer. With average subgrade undrained shear strength of 28 to 37kPa, the allowable vehicle load to operate above the fill is about 111 to 150kPa. The analysis results are summarized in Table 8, Prepared by PT.Sallens 3Final Report Revision 00 ‘Cone Penetration Test for Connecting Bridge Fil Area September 2020 Wika PP Joint Operation ob No.: 4141 ‘Table 8 Maximum Vehicle Load to Operate On the Fill Undrained Shear | asimum ie cet Strength at Fl |e Point No Layer ‘i2) (kPa) 1 CPTPOT 2 131 2 CPT-P.02 28 115: 3 CPTR.OS a 11 4 CPT-P.O4 7 150 7 LIMITATIONS The soil investigation was performed using the degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised, under similar circumstances, by geotechnical engineers and geologist practicing in this or similar localities.
