Creating Assignment

This document outlines an assignment for a first grade history lesson on the Jamestown colony. Students will use the StoryBoardThat website to create a comic strip depicting life as a colonist in Jamestown. They will be introduced to the topic through a YouTube video, asked questions to check their understanding, and taught about what daily life was like - including building houses, growing food, hunting, making clothes, trading with Native Americans. An example product is linked at the bottom. An alternative mobile app called Shadow Puppet Edu is also suggested.

and they lived in Jamestown. They built houses,
grew their own food, hunted, made their own
clothes, and started their own businesses. They
also traded with the Native Americans. They also

Mobile App Option There is not a mobile app for StoryBoardThat but if the
students would prefer the alternate mobile app, I would
also accept that.
The app is called “Shadow Puppet Edu” and can be found
on the Apple App Store. It is free to use. They could search
pictures from the internet, insert them into their project,
and then create a voice-over about why the picture is
significant. They could create a story, or do voices for
characters they create on the app.
