ePub/eBook FAQs

General Information
What are ePubs (ePublications) and eBooks?

An eBook is an electronic or digital version of a printed book. eBooks are generally book-length
works. The term "ePub" or "ePublication" is more generic and describes publications of almost
any size. You can read ePubs/eBooks on computers, eReaders (devices designed specifically for
reading ePubs and eBooks), and mobile devices like smart phones and tablets.

What is the EPUB file format and why would I use it?
An EPUB is an eBook file type or open format standard for "reflowable" content. That is, the text
reflows to fit the window you are viewing, and you can resize the text to suit you. These files
have the .EPUB extension. This format has been embraced by many publishing and technology
companies, including Sony, Google, Random House, Harper Collins, and Adobe®.

What other file formats are available?

On our site, digital publication formats include EPUBs and PDFs. We offer a growing number of
titles in the EPUB format and most titles also as PDFs. Before you purchase or download, be sure
your mobile device can use these formats.

Reading and Using ePubs

Can I read my ePubs on my iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device?
Yes. You just need to have an eReader app in order to read your ePub. Apple's default eReader is
iBook. Most eReaders are available for free from app stores.

What other mobile/hand-held devices work for reading ePubs?

Again, you need to have an eReader app in order to read your ePub or eBook. This is a fast-
changing market, but the majority of devices support both PDF and EPUB formats. Consult the
relevant documentation for your eReader.

Can I download an ePub or eBook to my desktop?

Yes. You just need to have an eReader app to read your ePub or eBook. Most eReaders are
available for free.

The text is too small to read. How do I fix that?

Your eReader controls the size of the text of your ePub. Check the Help section in your eReader
to find out how to change the type size.

Are there restrictions on sharing ePubs?

You can make copies for your personal use on an unlimited number of devices. You may not give
your ePub to other people or put the files on servers where others can read or access this content.
You may not edit ePub files, but you may view or print them for personal use as you see fit.

Is the content of an ePub from The Education Store protected from sharing?
No, our ePubs are currently DRM-free. That means they do not have any layers of security that
would hinder a customer from consuming the content (no passwords, no restrictions on where
you view it, no restrictions on printing or copying text). However, the usual copyright laws still
apply. As a condition of purchase, you must abide by the copyright terms as set out in our Terms
& Conditions (below).

Buying ePubs
How do I order an ePub?

You add the ePub to your cart and pay for it just as you would for any other item for sale in the
Store.

Can I purchase an ePub and a hard-copy book at the same time?

Yes. Both transactions can occur with one payment. Free PDF downloads happen separately,
without going through the cart.

After I purchase an ePub, how do I download and read it?

When you find a book you like, you add it to the cart and pay for it. After that, it will download
directly to the device you are using to browse the Store.

What should I do if the ePub I just purchased is not in my library?
 Your ePub should be
available for download immediately in your library, but occasionally it does take longer. If your
ePub is not available 15 minutes post-purchase, there may be a problem processing your order.
Please call us if this happens.

Can ePubs be returned?

No. You cannot return an ePub that has been purchased. ePub purchases are not refundable. So,
please, before you buy, be sure that the ePub you order is compatible with your device. Due
to the wide range of mobile devices, both old and new, currently in use, EPUB files offered
through The Purdue Extension Education Store have been created to function most reliably on
Apple iPhone 3G products and in the Apple iBook reader.
