FactoryTalk Alarm and Event Functions

This document discusses how to properly use alarm and event functions in FactoryTalk when servers are located in different areas. It explains that the area name must be included before the function to make it work correctly. For example, to get an alarm count when the RSLinx server is in area "Area1", the syntax would be AE_InAlmAckedCount("/Area1::*"). If the servers are in the same area, the syntax is AE_InAlmAckedCount("/::*").

Why do my Alarm expressions not work?

1)When using the FactoryTalk Alarm and Event Functions and the Rockwell Automation Device Server or
RSLinx Enterprise Data server is in a different area from the HMI server. You must use the area name followed
by :: for the functions to work correctly.

For example: If the RSLinx Enterprise server is in an area called Area1. Then to use the FactoryTalk Alarm and
Event Function AE_InAlmAckedCount() to return the number of In Alarm and Acknowledged alarms the syntax
would be:

AE_InAlmAckedCount("/Area1::*")

2)If the HMI Server and the Tag Alarm and Event Setup Server are in the same Area and the RSLinx Enterprise
Data Server is not in an Area, to get an Alarm Count the Syntax is.

AE_InAlmAckedCount("/::*")
