History
Computing Department, founded in the early days after reunification, was the predecessor of the Faculty
of Computer Science and Engineering. Along with the growth of Computing Department, in 1977, the
Department of Computer is established, which was one of the earliest departments in Ho Chi Minh City
University of Technology and the pioneer in the field of Information Technology in Vietnam.
Through many years of establishment and development, the Faculty of Computer Science and
Engineering now offers a wide range of courses and programs from undergraduate to postgraduate
degrees. The Faculty plays as an important source of high-quality human resources in the field of
Computer and Information Technology for the Southern region in particular and Vietnam in general. The
courses and programs, which is offered by the Faculty, include:
Undergraduate Courses: Computer Science and Computer Engineering. These are the first two
ABET-Accredited programs in Vietnam, which was organized to teach in both Vietnamese and
English.
Master Courses: Computer Science (taught in both Vietnamese and English) and Management
Information Systems. Students can choose to study by research or coursework
Doctor of Philosophy Course: PhD in Computer Science
The Faculty consists of high qualified and experienced lecturers, instructors, and staffs. Most of the
lecturers are qualified for a doctoral level from prestigious universities/institutes of developed countries
around the world such as USA, Europe, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, etc.
Organization
Computer Science
Computer Science is a science field about the operating principles of computers, the theory of
computation, algorithms and programs. The study of Computer Science includes how to
represent data, how to apply algorithms to process, storage and exchange information in digital
manner, and how to design and implement applied systems on computers.
In the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science program will equip
students with knowledge related to modern computing systems such as GPU, mobile devices,
Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, and many state-of-the-art algorithms in areas of Artificial
Intelligence, Big Data processing, Computer Graphics and Vision, Natural Language Processing,
Information Security, etc.
Computer Engineering
Computer Engineering is a branch of engineering that interferes between Computer Science and
Electronic Engineering. Besides handling computer-related tasks such as programming, software design,
computer networks, and operating systems, Computer Engineering also deals with hardware and
electronic circuits.
In the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Engineering program will equip students
with knowledge of modern computing systems related to multi-core processors, multi-core computing
systems such as GPU or programmable chips, mobile devices, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, IC
design, and advanced approaches in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Information Security, High-
Performance Computing, etc. As a result, Computer Engineering learners can design and implement
computing systems that combine hardware and software such as smart home, automotive control systems,
surveillance and monitoring systems using modern sensors for environmental, public security warning,
etc.

With a variety of subjects and challenging learning environment, after graduating from the
Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology,
engineers are not only equipped with in-depth knowledge, but also developed professional
attitudes, critical thinking, and soft skills to take a lot of work in the fields of Computer and
Information Technology such as:
Design and implementing software systems, hardware systems and high performance
systems based on cutting-edge technologies such as Big Data, Artificial
Intelligence/Machine Learning, Chip, Internet of Things, etc. for creating so-called smart
products of the Industry 4.0 like smart cities, smart homes, smart agricultural,
automotive, environmental monitoring, etc.
Design, building and managing security solutions for computer systems and computer
networks.
Consulting, appraising and developing solutions for IT-related projects.
After several years of work, engineers can be able to become effective leaders, project
managers or experts in the development projects for applied systems in charge of
technology, play as key staffs of companies.
Graduates of this major will have a wide range of high-paying career opportunities; they have the
option of moving into hardware or software positions, or blending the two. Typical industries
hiring computer engineers include science, engineering and technology, financial services,
computer manufacturers, chemical companies, defense contractors, consulting, transportation,
manufacturing, and consumer goods.
Alumni of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering is now working for world-class
corporations and companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, etc. In Vietnam,
students graduating from the Faculty have high opportunities to work for many big technology
companies such as VNPT, Vietel, VNG, Zalo, SEA Group, FPT, KMS, TMA, Global
CybersSoft, Mobifone, Marvell, Renesas, Intel Vietnam, etc. Many excellent alumnus of the
Faculty are currently taking on important positions of those companies. Geographically, CSE’s
alumni is also working in many different countries in Southeast Asia region and Asia as well like
Japan, Korea, and Singapore.
Computer engineers are equally successful in large multinational firms and small startups.
