Observing teachers in action is an important part of understanding what it means to be a teacher. Watch the videos listed for this
module and review all of the written materials that accompany them. Choose one of the videos to reflect on. Use this form to
respond to the prompts as they relate to your chosen video. Connect our chapter reading to your observation reflection.

Teachers are always learning from each other. Classroom observations are an important part of developing a rich, reflective, and
effective practice.
Share three questions you have 1. Are socratic seminar effective on students? In some cases, there are the same three
about teaching as it relates to this students that engage in the discussion the whole time and then there is students who remain
observation. silent. How can we get students to engage more in socratic seminars?
2. Besides having class discussions at the end to show their understanding, what are other
ways teachers can know if their students understood the lesson plan of that day.
3. Why must a teacher always be the one to monitor the class discussion? Do you believe
students would be less shy to participate of it were being monitor by a classmate. For
example, when I would participate in socratic seminars, the teacher would select a student
to come up with questions related to the text so they would be the person to monitor the
discussion and assure that everyone is participating.
Share three things you have learned From this observation, I learned:
from this observation. 1. When the class activity involved class discussions, students are more engaged.
2. Feedback was helpful for both the students and the teacher. It allowed everyone to know
what can be done differently next time.
3.Students were not judgmental of other’s thoughts and ideas. Everyone was respectful.
