Description
Recall mathematical formulas case study, where Vikram is the store manager of a mobile phone
retailer in Bangalore. Vikram is assigned a new responsibility of onboarding and training new
hires.
In this case study, we will help Vikram prepare an onboarding worksheet for new hires in which
he will
1. Insert the company Logo.
2. Insert a welcome text box.
3. Embed a PPT which provides information about the company and management to its new
employees.
4. Embed a hyperlink to a sales blog. Every week a new sales blog is published on this page
that a new hire should read.
5. Create a word document within Excel for introducing the new hires to office policy.

Solution
1. Open file MSE_Chapter7_New Hire On boarding.xls.
2. Select cell A1.
3. On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click the Pictures button to insert the
company logo from your local drive.
4. Select the Chapter 7_Logo image from the data files provided to you in the course.
5. On the Insert Picture dialog box, click the Insert button. Excel inserts the company logo
in cell A1.
6. Drag and resize the company logo to place it in the left corner of the cell.
7. On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click the Shapes button.
8. Select rounded rectangle shape from the library list and then click and drag your mouse
to insert and size your chosen shape in the middle of column A1.
9. Type Welcome in the rectangular shape.
10. Click the Shape Styles More arrow to display Shape Styles gallery.
11. Select a shape style of your choice.
12. Select cell B6.
13. On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click the Object button.
14. On the Object dialog box, click the Create from File tab.
15. Click the Browse button. Excel opens the Browse dialog box. Locate and select the
MSE_Chapter 7_Mobile Phone Retail Store.ppt provided in data files in the course.
Click the Insert button.
16. Click the Display as icon check box.
17. Click OK.
18. Excel embeds the PPT and displays its icon.

19. Select cell B11.
20. On the Insert tab, in the Links group, click the Hyperlink button.
21. Excel opens Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
22. In the Text to display entry box, type “Sales Training Blog”.
23. In the Address entry box, type link https://thesalesblog.com/blog/ .
24. Click OK.
25. Excel inserts a hyperlink for sales blog. Note that when the new hires click this link they
will always get the latest updated blogs.
26. Click cell B16.
27. On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click the Object button.
28. On the Create New tab, in the Object type list select Microsoft Word Document.
29. Click OK.
30. Excel opens the editing window for Microsoft Word.
31. Type the Office Policy: “Do not use unlicensed software”.
32. Double click the PPT icon. Excel opens the PPT.
33. Click the hyperlink, Excel takes you to the blog site.
