● visualize and add two one-digit numbers
with sums up to 18;
● visualize and add three one-digit numbers
and;
● visualize and add two to three one-digit

4 + 6 = 10
6 + 4 = 10 is the same as 4+6 = 10.
5. How many cupcakes are there in all?

There are 10 cupcakes in all.


This shows that we can change the order of the
numbers we are adding and still get the same answer.
6. What will we get when we add 0 to a number?

2+0=2
0+2=2
There are 2 eggs altogether.
6. What will we get when we add 0 to a number?

2+0=2
0+2=2
This shows that the number does not change when
we add 0.
7. 5 + 6 + 7 = ?
We can add 5 and 6 first.
5 + 6 + 7 = 11 + 7
= 18
We can also add 6 and 7 first.
5 + 6 + 7 =5 + 13
= 18
5 + 6 + 7 = 18 is the same as 5 + 6 + 7 = 18
This shows that we can add different numbers
first and still get the same answer.
We can write this addition sum in two ways.
5 + 6 + 7 = 18 5
