(d) A machine fills packets of lollies. The mean number of lollies in each packet is 30
with a standard deviation of 1.4 lollies and the number of lollies is normally
distributed. Jack claims that he bought a packet which had 36 lollies in it.
Discuss Jack's claim.

Ahmed travels to the health resort for three nights.
(i) Draw a tree diagram to show the outcomes of rain falling or not falling for
the three days. )
(b) Anew motorway is built. When there is no toll to use the motorway,
12 000 use it each day. For each dollar increase in the toll, 1000 fewer
vehicles use the motorway.
(i) If d (dollars) represents the value of the toll, find an equation for the
number of vehicles (v) using the motorway each day in terms of d.
(ii) Suny says 'Ahigher toll always means a higher total daily income'.
Show that Suny is incorrect and find the maximum daily income from tolls.
( Use a table of values, or a graph, or suitable calculations).
(c) Rick has an investment account that pays 5o/o p.a., compounding yearly,
into which he deposits $1 300 per year. He plans to make regular investments
every year for 18 years. What single investment could he make today at 5o/o p.a.
compounding yearly, for 18 years, that will produce the same amount as
his periodic investment account?
