Dayananda Sagar University School of Engineering: D 30 e A Z B A C/M

1) The document is an assignment from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at Dayananda Sagar University. It contains 10 problems related to electro-magnetic fields and flux involving calculations for things like the electric field and force on charges given distributions of charge or electric displacement. 2) Problems 1-3 involve calculating the electric displacement D at given points in space due to different charge distributions, such as a point charge, line charge, and surface charge density. 3) Problems 4-10 involve additional calculations related to electric fields E, electric potential, flux, and work done by electric fields given different charge distributions and field equations.

1) Find D (in Cartesian co-ordinates) at p (6, 8, -10) caused by
(a) a point charge of 30.mc at origin
(b) a uniform line charge = 40 nc/m on z.-axis
(c) a uniform surface charge density = 57.2 μc/m2
2) Given D = 5x2ax + 10z az (c/m2) find the net outward flux (ψ) the surface of a cube 2m on an
edge centered at origin. The edges of the cube are parallel to coordinate axis.

3) Given that b in cylindrical co-ordinates, find the outward flux
the crossing the right circular cylinder described by ρ = 2b, z= 0 & z = 5b m.
4) A charge at +Q coulombs is distributed uniformly throughout the volume of a sphere of radius
R meter. Find E everywhere.
5) A positive charge of ρv c/m3 occupies a solid sphere. At a point interior at a distance ‘r’ from the
center, a small probe charge +q is inserted. What is the force acting on the probe charge?
6) Let D= 5r2 ar mC/m2 for r < 0.08m and D = 0.1/r2 ar mC/m2 for r > 0.08m. Find a) ρv for
r=0.06m b) ρv for r=0.1m.
7) Find the numerical value for the divergence of D at the point indicated if
D = sin cos ar + coscos a - sin a c/m2 at P (2,  = /3,  = /16)
8) A total charge of 40/3 nC is uniformly distributed around a circular disc of radius 2m. Find the
potential at a point on the axis at 5m for the plane of the disc.
9) Find the work done in moving a 5 µC charge from origin to point P (2, -1, 4) through the field
E= 2xyz ax +x2z ay + x2y az V/m via the path :
a) Straight line segment (0, 0, 0) to (2, 0, 0) to (2, -1, 0) to (2, -1, 4)
b) Straight line x = -2y, z = 2x.
10) Four equal point charges Q = 2 nC are to be placed at the corners of a square of (1/3) m side one
at a time. Find the energy in the system after each charge is positioned.
