K Is A Constant, Develop A Formula For The Steady Forward: Prob.

This document contains a midterm exam for a Fluid Mechanics II course. It consists of 3 problems. Problem 1 asks students to develop a formula for the steady forward speed V of a jet-propelled boat given its drag force F and the volume flow rate Q and ejection velocity Vj of the jet pump. Problem 2 asks students to calculate the steady rotational speed in revolutions per minute (rpm) of a three-arm lawn sprinkler receiving a given volume flow rate of water, for angles of the arms of 0 and 40 degrees. Problem 3 asks students to generate expressions for the velocity field and volume flow rate per unit width of an oil film flowing laminarly down an inclined plate, and then calculate the volume

Answer the Following Questions

:‫اﻟﻔﺻل‬ :‫اﻹﺳم‬

Prob. (1)
The boat in the figure, is jet-propelled by a pump which
develops a volume flow rate Q and ejects water out the
stern at velocity Vj. If the boat drag force is F= kV2, where
k is a constant, develop a formula for the steady forward
speed V of the boat.

Prob. (2)
The three-arm lawn sprinkler, shown in the figure, receives water through the center
at 2.7 m3/h. The collar friction is negligible,
Calculate the steady rotational speed in rpm for: (a) θ = 0o, and (b) θ = 40o
Prob. (3)
A constant-thickness film of oil flows in laminar motion down a plate
inclined at angle θ, as in the figure. Generate expressions for the
velocity field and the volume flow rate per unit width of oil falling
down the wall as a function of ρ, μ, h, and g. Also, calculate the
volume flow rate per unit width for an oil film of thickness 5.0 mm
with ρ = 888 kg/m3, μ = 0.80 kg/m·s and θ= 60°.
