IPv4 Exhaustion
are we ready to face it ?

Internet Protocol used to identify nodes.
IP addresses are managed by the Internet
Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).
Five Regional Internet Registers (RIR) under
(IANA).

IPv4address space is a 32 bit field. Has only
4.3 billion addresses.
Computers, Tablets, Smartphones, TVs,
Gaming systems. Each one of those need an
IP address.
Limited
amount of IP addresses. Not sufficient
to connect the millions of Internet subscribers
now and in future.
IPv6 Revolution ! 5
IPv6 is the network layer Protocol design to
replace IPv4 and address some of its weakness.
Designed by Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF).
IPv6 is designed to identify a total of 340 trillion
trillion trillion, possible equipment, not all of them
can be used.
Why IPv6 ? 6
Efficiency : IPv6 simplifies packets and
speeds up data transmission by handling
packets more efficiently.
Why IPv6 ? (Cont.) 7
Inevitability : IPv6 will soon be the only option for
adding new devices or hosts on the Internet.
Why IPv6 ? (Cont.) 8
Security : IPv6 has been built from the ground up
with security in mind.
Address Space : Increase from 32-bit to 128-bit
address space.
Management : Stateless auto configuration allows
hosts to configure themselves automatically using
Neighbor Discovery Protocol.
Problems 9
IPv4 and IPv6 are not compatible and can’t
directly communicate with each other.

TRANSLATOR
11
Translation will :
Add extra cost and equipment to the network.
Break the communication.
Do you know ? 12
(IANA) have no more IPv4 addresses to provide.
96.25% of IPv4 addresses given to AFRINIC are
consumed.
IPv6 in Sudan 13
SDv6TF (Sudanese IPv6 Task Force) was formed
in 2010 to fellow the implementation of IPv6
migration plan.
By November 2012 all telecom operators are
becoming IPv6 enabled.
By August 2014 Sudanese Research and
Education Network (SudREN) is the first ISP to be
fully IPv6 Enabled.
Migration to IPv6 14
Internet Service Provider (ISP) : Make sure that
(ISP) is providing IPv6 services.
Network Infrastructures : Routers should support
IPv6.
15
Start and Activate IPv6 deployment on
your network now
