Self-assessment Task 2

1. Discuss the teachings of the KKK. Point out some teachings that you find useful
and helpful in your daily life.
There are 12 teachings of katipunan but among the 12 I find these two teachings
useful in our daily life. “Maitim man o maputi ang kulay ng balat, lahat ng tao'y
magkakapantay; mangyayaring ang isa'y hihigtan sa dunong, sa yaman, sa ganda...;
ngunit di mahihigtan sa pagkatao.” and “Ang may mataas na kalooban, inuuna ang puri
kaysa pagpipita sa sarili; ang may hamak na kalooban, inuuna ang pagpipita sa sarili
kaysa sa puri.” The first one talk about equality. Equality is important in our daily life to
live in a fair and equal society. Equality brings confidence to an individual, productivity
to their respective works and makes people more sociable. It also leads to economic
development. For there’s equality, there is no discrimination. Next teaching is about
honor for oneself. It says that one with a noble spirit values honor before self-
actualization.
2. Make a chart comparing the Reform Movement and the Katipunan.

Conclusion:
The reform movement aims to depict the wrongful doings during Spanish colonialism
predominantly the abuses of the friars and the guardia civil. The failure of the reform movement
was already apparent in 1892 when Rizal was arrested and exiled to Dapitan. Thus, the
Katipunan was founded on a radical platform under the leadership of Bonifacio, to secure the
independence and freedom of the Philippines.
