The question I chose is what the negative effects are of watching 3 or more hours of
television on the human body. The human body is an interesting subject to learn about. There are
many parts and pieces to the human body, it makes you wonder about how the human body
works. So, let us say you are an extremely lazy person, and all you do is watch tv all day. A
couch potato is what most people would call this. If this were a normal scenario in your life what
would this do to your body? What would this do your brain? What would it do to your thought
One key point that is mentioned in all my sources is the fact that watching tv in long increments
viewing takes away the time that your child needs to develop important skills like language,
creativity, motor, and social skills. These skills are developed in the kids’ first two years (a
critical time for brain development) through play, exploration, and conversation. Your kid’s
language skills, for example, do not improve by passively listening to the TV. It is developed by
interacting with people, when talking and listening is used in the context of real life.”
(Tumbokon, 2020)This source is important because developing your cognitive skills in life is one
of the most important things as a human. According to NCBI “several further health-related
potentially confounding variables were also identified. Television viewing has been found to be

associated with depression, which is itself associated with cognitive dysfunction, including
verbal memory impairment” (Fancourt & Steptoe, 2019) This source is important because while
watching tv your body is not being active or getting any physical activity that it needs on a
day-to-day basis therefore your brain is not getting the exercise it needs as well to stay fit
and healthy.
One common misconception about watching tv is that sitting close to the tv is bad for you.
According to kidshealth.org “The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) says that kids
can actually focus up close without eyestrain better than adults, so they often develop the habit of
sitting right in front of the television or holding reading material close to their eyes.” This
website shows facts about the eyes in general and it just so happened it answered a question I
needed, so tis website is not exactly reliable, but it does mention The American Academy of
Ophthalmology which is reliable. I have also always wondered if sitting too close to the tv
Some possible answers to my research questions include watching tv for more than 3 hours is
unhealth for your body as well as for your brain. It takes away a lot from your brain activity
physically and it can make you lazy as well as cause health concerns. For this research project I
want to do more research on the effects of how watching tv and a person’s health is related. I
find it interesting that being lazy and weight gain are connected to each other. I also want to do
more research on the effects of watching tv for adults and for children and how they are different
or the same.
In conclusion all of my sources are important because they talk about how important it is to not
watch 3 or more hours of tv a day. They talk about how important it is for your brain to develop

and to have cognitive abilities in life. This essay also talks about how watching television for
