1.define the following terms:

A) arc- it is commonly refer to a portion of the circle which is called
circular arc,but arc could also be a portion of other shapes that
contained curves such as arc of parabola and ellipse

B) Central angle-it is an angle which its vertex is the center of a circle

and its sides are radius intersecting the circle in two distinct points A and
B

C) Radius- is a line segment from center to any part of the the shape
such as circle and sphere

D) Pi-It is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter,

and it also has various equivalent definitions. The pi is represented by
the symbol:π and had a value of 3.14159

E) Degree measure-a way of measuring the size of angles in which a

complete rotation has a measure of 360 degrees (written as 360 °). A
right angle is 90 °. circle is a 360 degree shape and its 1/4 part is a right
angle which is 90 degrees

F) Degree- is the variables exponent or superscript and based on

internet it is also used in degree of an expression, degree of algebra and
degree of a term

G) Radian measure-One radian is the measure of a

central angle subtended by an arc that is equal in length to the radius of
the circle.  The formula for finding radian measure is rad × 180/π=

H) Radian-a unit of angle, equal to an angle at the center of a circle

whose arc is equal in length to the radius.
I) Arc length-The distance along the arc.Arc length is the distance
between two points along a section of a curve.

2. What is an angle in standard position? Give an example problem.

-Standard Position. Angles can exist anywhere in the coordinate plane

where two rays share a common vertex. If this vertex is at the origin of
the plane and the initial side lies along the positive $x$-axis, then the
angle is said to be in standard position.

EXAMPLE:
Engineers use a bevel protractor to measure the angle and the depth of
holes, slots, and other internal features. A bevel protractor is set to
measure an angle of 72°. What is the measure of the angle in standard
position of the lower half of the ruler, used for measuring the depth of
an object?

Solution :

To find the angle in standard position, we have to notice that the

terminal arm is in which quadrant.

The terminal arm lies in the third quadrant. So the required angle will be
180 + 72. That is 252.

3.What is the conterminal angle? Give an example problem.

- Coterminal angles: are angles in standard position (angles with the
initial side on the positive x-axis) that have a common terminal side.

Example:
Find a positive and a negative angle coterminal with a 55° angle.

55°−360°=−305°
55°+360°=415°

A −305° angle and a 415° angle are coterminal with a 55° angle.

4.What is reference angle? Give an example problem.

- Reference Angle: the acute angle between the terminal arm/terminal

side and the x-axis. The reference angle is always positive. In other
words, the reference angle is an angle being sandwiched by the terminal
side and the x-axis. It must be less than 90 degree, and always positive

EXAMPLE:

Find the reference angle for 150 degrees. 180 - 150 = 30 degrees. The
reference angle is 30 degrees. If the terminal side of the angle is in the
3rd quadrant, we take 180 degrees and subtract it from the angle
measure.
