Flowatch Well Testing Procedure

This technical manual provides instructions for preparing for and conducting a well test using a Flowatch MPFM system. Key steps include connecting the HMI laptop to the flow computer, verifying bin file logging is enabled, preparing the well test parameters by selecting or creating a well file and modifying fluid properties and PVT data based on latest lab analyses, and downloading the bin file from the test. Conductivity of a water sample is measured to determine water density for the well file. Proper preparation of fluid properties and PVT data is important for accurate well test results.

1. INTRODUCTION

This procedure have the scope to guide the operator during the preparation of the fluid
properties and the PVT data required for start and perform the well test. In the main time it
describe also how to create a well test report, how to use thew istorical result window and the
operation for retrieve and stroe on the HMI computer all the bin file logged during the test.

The bin file logging function is normaly not required for the execution of the well testing, but in this
specific case while the system still on test having the bin file available will be a big advantage in
case will be requested to reprocess the results.

2. PREPARING FOR THE WELL TEST

SWITCH ON THE SYSTEM AND GET CONNECTION TO THE FLOW COMPUTER

Swich on the MPM using the power switch on the flow computer control panel.

Connect the TCP/IP Ethernet cable on the HMI laptop, than switch it on. Automatically the HMI
will go on while windows will be ready. The laptop doesen’t have any password for window
acess.

Here is the main HMI window when the HMI is running.

Is now requested for the HMI to get connected to the flow computer.
WELL TEST GUIDE

• Click with the mouse on the area

• Select ENIOIL A100 MOBILE

Two confirmation messages will appear

Led became light green if communication is

established

Problems:

If the HMI connection led doesen’t get ON the possible causes are:

• TCP/IP cable is not plugged into the lap top

• Flow computer is not on
• Flow computer program is not running, see green led status on the flow computer. Led
number 4 should blink green color.
• HMI has is on historical mode

PUT HMI IN USER LEVEL

PREPARE WELL TEST PARAMETERS

Befor to start the well test is requested to prepare the well file with the apdated fluids
properties and PVT data, shrinkage and GOR2.

For prepare the well parameters the following information are requested:

1. Last oil lab analisys for OIL DENSITY

2. Lasat gas lab analisys for SG and composition
3. water sample from the well for WATER CONDUCTIVITY determination.

SELECT OR CREATE A WELL FILE

1. Select from HMI the IMPUT PARAMETERS button (or press F1)

2. Select PARAMETER FILE

EDITOR button

3. If the parameter file for the well is already available, push LOAD button and select it from
the list than click OK

3
WELL TEST GUIDE

date 28.01.2009 – page 8/24

4. Selected file is now on use and it can in case be modified.

5.If the well file is not available select COPY button

7. Insert the new file name for the well, example A34 HMI than press OK

8.Press EXIT on the parameter file editor window.

The file now has been created and it is ready for be modify and apdated with the new fluid
properties.

MODIFY FLUID PROPERTIES OF A WELL FILE

Select FLUD PROPERTIES button for modify the

parameters

OIL DENSITY:

Reference temperature from lab report

directly into the oil reference
temperature

SG from lab report moltiply 1000

Example 0.7674 x 1000= 767.4

Temperature gradient always -

0.41 Kg/m3 per °F

Reference pressure and pressure

gradient always ZERO

WATER DENSITY:

Water salinity from lab results goes into the excel file
Water density vs Salinity ver 1.0 021202.xls
Insert also operating pressure and minimum and
maximum expected operating temperature of the well

Copy the results goes into the HMI window

WELL TEST GUIDE

date 28.01.2009 – page 12/24

WATER DENSITY:

Get an oil sample from the well, let the water separate from the oil and take out a water
sample as free as possible from oil contamination.

Using the portable conductivity meter measure the actual water conductivity value and note it
down tigheter with the temperature value.

For example 69.9 at 55.3 °C.

The value show on the conductivity meter’s display is expressed in mS/cm,

the value we need shoud be in S/m, consequently the value readed must
devided by 10.

During the measuremt the conductivity meter must be in actual measurement

mode, check the symbol TC% in the right bottom corner it should blink.

Water temperature must be lower than 60°C because the conductivity cant
measure more than this. So in case waitt the water to cool down for few
minutes.

Conductivity and temperature from the

portable conductivity meter

Pressure always 0 psiG
