Common Electrical materials for Wiring Installation
1. Electrical Wire - An electrical wire is a type of conductor, which is a material that
conducts electricity. In the case of household wiring, the conductor itself is usually
copper or aluminum (or copper-sheathed aluminum) and is either a solid metal conductor
or stranded wire.
2. Electrical Tape - Electrical tape is a safety tape for wires, used to cover and insulate a
broad range of cables, wires and other materials that conduct electricity. It’s often
referred to as insulating (or thermal insulation) tape, and its uses in workplace and home
settings are widespread.
3. Electrical Conduits - An electrical conduit is a tube used to protect and route electrical
wiring in a building or structure. Electrical conduit may be made of metal, plastic, fiber,
or fired clay. Most conduit is rigid, but flexible conduit is used for some purposes.
4. Junction Box - An electrical junction box is an enclosure housing electrical connections,
to protect the connections and provide a safety barrier.
5. Circuit Breaker - a circuit breaker is an automatic circuit protection system. Breakers
are installed in an electrical panel (breaker box) and each circuit is attached to a singular
breaker. The breaker will monitor the circuit and in the event of a complication such as
an overload, the breaker will immediately shut off that circuit.
6. Switch - a switch is an electrical component that can disconnect or connect the
conducting path in an electrical circuit, interrupting the electric current or diverting it
from one conductor to another.
7. Male Plug - an electrical device with two or three pins that is inserted in a socket to make
an electrical connection.
8. Outlet - An electrical outlet or receptacle is a socket that connects an electrical device to
an electricity supply.
9. Lamp Holder - A device for securing a lamp to its support; specifically, a socket or
holder fitted with electric terminals, into which the top of the glass globe of an
incandescent lamp is fitted, or from which it hangs.
10. Utility Box - An electrical utility box is typically a rectangular, open-faced box mounted
in a wall. It serves to house an electrical device, such as an electrical receptacle or switch
or a GFI (ground fault interrupter).
11. Conduit Straps - A conduit strap is a device used to secure electrical conduit to the
framing system of a building.
12. Wire Nut - A plastic cap used to cover and connect bare wires together.
13. Non-metallic cable staples - metal loop both ends of which are driven into a surface to
hold the hook, hasp, or bolt of a lock, secure a rope, or fix a wire in place.
