Marking Criteria:
We expect the learners to write minimum one well expressed point in three lines against each
allocated mark. This means one needs to write 15 lines with 5 well expressed points to get high
grades for a 5 marks question.

For high grades use examples and illustrations where appropriate.

1. Explain briefly
Letter of information request is to ask for specific action and give a polite command
to the readers.
Letter of recommendation is to show relationship between the applicant and others,
describe the applicant’s professional and personal qualities, and draw conclusion
about the applicant.
Letter of refusal is to refuse someone without hurting the readers.
Letter of persuasion is to sell an idea or persuade someone
2. Things that I would include in the business case are:
- Executive summary
- Introduction to the proposed change
- Background information
- Mission statement
- Benefits accrued from the change
- Conclusions from the research
- Why the organization should consider the idea.
- Principles to guide development
- Recommend the scope of change
- Projected cost
- Cost of recommended programme
- Measurement, outcomes, and evaluation methods
- Anticipated overall results.
3. A formal report has the following parts
- Cover: Includes the name of the organization, your department
- Letter of Transmittal: explains how, why, and under what circumstances the report
was
- Title Page: title of the report, who the report was prepared for, author’s name and
date
- Synopsis or Executive Summary: an informative summary covering the purpose of
the report as well as key findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Table of contents: contains main divisions with page number
- List of Illustrations: needed only if there are many illustrations and graphs
- Introduction: includes whatever the reader needs in order to understand the report,
such as the background, scope, limitations, details about your approach or method.
- Body/ Discussion
- Summary
- Conclusions
- Recommendations
- Appendix: may include statistics, tables, and other information of interest to only
some readers.
- Very extensive reports may also contain footnotes and a bibliography.
