Levels of Communication

We can excel our communication skills if we understand the different levels of

communication.

Levels of Communication

1. Extrapersonal -> Between human beings and animals/non-human (Pets - Fish,

Parrots, Cats, Dogs)
-Improves our understanding of the subtle emotions of the other species, helps us learn a lot of
values from the other animals and share a very good symbiotic bond with them.

Extrapersonal communication can be extrapolated to a higher realm and interpreted as our

relationship with the objects and other non-human entities that we are associated with.
The love and care we exhibit towards them.
-Extremely important. Makes us disciplined, clean, neat and organized.
The need of the hour-with the outbreak of Covid 19- to keep us clean and disciplined to lead a
healthy and happy life.

2. Intrapersonal -> A healthy dialogue with one’s

own inner psyche.
Instruction from brain to hand etc., (slowing near a
hump; feeling the biting cold
and reaching for warm clothing)
An essential mode of communication to improve
personality by pondering over and judging our
own actions.
-Self-motivational. Helps us to improve
patience.

3. Interpersonal - > 'between two or more

persons
-Close physical proximity with another individual/group of individuals.

concept due to vis-à-vis interaction. It lb moiteaotp, Non to km 1 earl

4. Organizational Communication -Takes Place at different hierarchical level.

It is extremely necessary for the sustenance of any organization.
Since a large number of employees are involved in several different activities, the
need to communicate becomes greater in an organization. With a proper networking
system, communication in an organization is possible even without direct contact
between employees.

5. Mass Communication:

For this kind of communication we require a mediator to transmit information. These

are several mass media such as journals, hooks, television, and newspapers, which
mediate such communication. Since the messages are for a large audience that is
heterogeneous and anonymous, the approach is impersonal. Press interviews given
by the chairman of a large firm, advertisements for a particular product or service,
and the like take place through mass media. This type of communication is more
persuasive in nature than any other form of communication and requires utmost care
an the part of the sender in encoding the message. Oral communication through
mass media requires some equipment, such as microphones, amplifiers, etc., and
the written form needs print or visual media.
