Blended Learning Lesson Plan
Blended Learning Lesson Plan
Context:
The lesson I am going to be teaching is a First-grade math lesson, that must be taught in
order to keep moving up in the math world. Math is never really an easy subject, so if the
students do not understand the basics then it will be extremely hard for them to understand the
harder things. The greater than, less than, and equal too lesson is important because the students
should be able to understand which number is larger than another. This comes in handy when
subtracting certain numbers or even dividing the numbers because the larger number always
needs to get divided. That needs to happen, or negative numbers and improper fractions will start
to occur. Being able to understand the value of numbers is important because numbers are
everything in life, especially when dealing with money. This can relate to real world situation
because they will be able to tell which bills are larger than the others or when getting change
back if it was correctly done. Students will need to know their numbers especially like what
numbers come after one another. If they do not correctly know their number from 1 to 100s, then
it will be really difficult to understand which number is greater or less than. The students will
also need to understand what it means to be less than or greater than, or even equal too because
sometimes students get confused with the meanings of those words. The overall purpose is so
that students can truly identify numbers and know which numbers are bigger or less than each
other. The equal part is easy because if the number is the same, then they are obviously equal to
one another. The students will also have to pay close attention to detail and understand that first
you look at the 10s place and then at the 1s place, to understand which number is ultimately first.
Once they get down the basics and can do it with negative numbers, decimals, or even a
subtraction or addition sequence. For example, (4-6) is ______ to (9-4). The students would
place the symbol on that blank there to make the sequence correct. This comes after because it
can get more complicated and have many more steps to the problem. Overall, it is important to
be able to tell the difference in numbers and to even make sure that they are correctly reading the
signs. The signs sometimes can get confusing, but the trick is the alligator wants to eat the bigger
number. It is also important when reading the math sentence out loud, that they go from left to
right and that is the way they solve the sentence. To prepare the students for this topic, I am
going to fully explain the importance of what we are learning about and how it really helps in the
future. I will also make sure all students know how to count with no hesitation, and that it is done
correctly. Explain how these number equations can be read and written into a sentence, so they
can actually become some type of word problem. Make sure that the students know we are going
to be learning this together, with several different objects/ tools. This lesson will help students
understand the difference between numbers and be able to turn a math equation into a word
problem without getting the numbers confused.
Data:
The students will be divided based on how they did on the previous unit test. They will be
divided like that because that will help me understand if they are actually paying attention and
learning in my class. Students all learn different so it is easier to put the students into groups
where it will be the most beneficial. After going through multiple units, the teacher will be able
to tell which students work best with each other and what groups need to be switched up due to
the fact that they aren’t excelling in the class. The students will be divided into three separate
groups. The groups will range from knowing a nothing, knowing a little, and really knowing the
topic just needing more help. Before the topic is started, the students will be asked on an exit slip
a couple questions that have to deal with the certain topic. The questions will better help me
understand what they already know and what needs to be taught. For example, one would be,
what does this math sentence mean “7>5”. I would expect the student to say that 7 is greater than
5. If that student knows exactly that then they would be placed in the highest group. They will be
placed on their last unit test and the exit slip that is given out. These groups will all be worked
with individually and each group would get different support at the end of the day. I have done
this for multiple units now and it really works best, and I feel like the students really are learning
better when they are separated. For each unit, I do a pre and then ending test to see if the students
have improved or not. If the students have not improved then I will be looking deeper into them
as the weeks go on, so I can figure out a better plan or solutions. Every single day that we work
on this topic, they will get an exit ticket that will have questions on it. If they get them correct
then they will be moving up, if they are still not understanding they will be staying where they
are. I also will be correcting their worksheets and looking at everything done in the class. It is
important to make sure they are doing good on all their work and actually doing it. That is how
they will be getting self-evaluated because if they conquer this topic, they will receive
something. It is important to keep evaluating their work so that the teacher can see if they are
improving or not. It will be an overall decision on all the things graded if they will be moving on
or not. Groups can constantly change, but there must be a constant action of improving for them
to actually get switched. However, if I see that one group is not doing what they need to do or
they are all not doing well. I will be looking deeper into that group trying to figure something out
or what to change. Reflection from students is also important so I can see how they feel about
what is happening and if they think there needs to be improvement anywhere.

Procedures:
Introduction (20 minutes):
This will be when the students first get in at the beginning of the morning. The daily
morning routine of all the students is to come in and complete the worksheet on their desk. The
worksheet will be like a little brain activity so that they can wake up in the morning. I came up
with this because I remember how hard it was to wake up so early and then have to come in and
automatically start work. The little brain worksheet will allow them to destress, relax a little bit,
and wait until all the students come in. The students are allowed to eat breakfast while they are
doing assignments, but once the 8 o’clock hits the announcements will start. When the
announcements are done, that is when we will start the lesson. I will ask nicely for all the
students to put away all their belongings and to get out their notebook with a writing utensil. I
then will direct them to pay attention to the smart board, where I will pull up a PowerPoint with
notes that they will have to write down. PowerPoints are an amazing way to help the students
learn because they can see it Infront of them and then are learning how to take notes. The
PowerPoint will start off with the objectives for the topic and then go from there. Something that
is really important is that the teacher is speaking up and going at a nice pace so that the students
can really understand what is being talked about. PowerPoint will have information about the
topic, examples of what the number sentences will look like, and the definition of what the
symbols mean. Once we get to the part about the symbols, I will give them a hard copy of each
symbol and what that symbol indicates. The students will learn better when they have it right
Infront of them and they will be able to follow along while going through the PowerPoint. To
make things easy everything that is highlighted on the PowerPoint will be the notes that they
need to take, so that they are getting a direct outline. I used to do fill in notes, but those took up
too much paper, so highlighting it was easier because then they just filled it in. At the end of the
presentation, I will play this YouTube video for the class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=5wwi1FzocTw. This video is a wrap up with more examples of everything I just went through,
so it will tell the students once again what is being talked about. To make sure the students pay
attention, they will be instructed to write down three things that the women said that what
interested them. This will allow me to know which students were actually paying attention and
which ones took it as a break period. After the video is finished, each student will talk about one
thing they thought was interesting and then groups will come into play. I will go over each
activity that is happening in the day and showing them where the certain groups will be sitting. I
then will call out the name of the students in each group and they will divide. Once they are all in
the correct spot with their materials, the groups will start for 15 minutes each.

Independent Digital (15 minutes):
This station is totally on their own, where the students will be taking everything they
learned and going through it without help. The first thing the students will be doing is a game on
the classroom iPad. The iPad are at the front of the classroom, where the students will check
them out. Each student needs to write the iPad number next to their name, when they check it
out: so that I know if they do not return the iPad at the end of the day. The students will also
need to get their headphones out that they all have individually, so that they can listen to the
sounds of the game. The students will then go to the website: education.com and sign into their
student account that will be provided to them the first day of school from the school. They will
play one round of the “Less than or Greater than: 1 to 20”. The link to the game is
https://www.education.com/game/less-than-greater-than/ . The students will go through the
games and it will walk them through when they get the correct answer. The game is an
interactive game with music and narration in the background, so it will be easily for the kids to
feel engaged. The students will stay engaged and will probably like playing this game. The game
is a learning game, while being fun so it can definitely be used more than once. The students will
be keeping the iPad until the end of the day because the end of the day there will be a closure
activity on it. Once they complete the game, they will go to the worksheet baskets and pick up
one of their worksheets. Before doing anything, they will write at the top of the worksheet
something they liked about the game and how they felt after playing it. They then will complete
the worksheet all by themselves without receiving any help. This will test how much they
learned throughout the day and if they are actually improving. The worksheet will have specific
questions on them that each student will have to answer. Each student will be getting the same
questions, so that at the end of the day we can go through them as a class. The students at the end
of the day, will correct their answers in a different pen, if they are wrong. I then will collect them
at the end of the day, to see how the class did as a whole and what questions confused them. This
will be the only worksheet we go over as a group.
Rationale:
1. Kahoot:
- This is such a good resource to use in school because it is something fun after a long day.
It is a game created by the teacher that uses all the things learned, and lets the students
compete against each other. It supports standards and objectives because it is still
teaching them while they are having fun. The teacher creates the questions, so I would
just take questions they already did to see if they are actually improving. It will help the
students know what they understand and what they still need to focus on. It is another
visual learning system so that they can see it in front of their faces. Kahoot is mostly used
for a review or sometimes even quiz and it really helps the students review in an easy
way. Students always want to get to top three: so, they will definitely try a lot harder to
get the answers correct.
2. Education game:
- This game is a learning game for students to do independently. The game has images like
alligators that you must drag the correct sign to complete the sentence. If you get the
answer correct, the alligator gets happy for you and the next question pops up. The
students are learning on their own, while still being involved with the topic. It is easier to
get students to do something that will entertain them and make them feel engaged. I
played a part of the game and the questions actually really helped because once you
completed it, it read out loud the sentence that the symbol makes. The sentence is another
part to the equation and that is how you know if you fully understood what is being
talked about. It is a high-quality app and extremely easy to get to without problems
because it is straight forward. This game helps the learners learn more about what is
being talked about, and it was one of the best games out there. This game was the most
instructional and not childish, that will allow the students to still learn.
