EMC and RMC Client Install

EMC Client and RMC Client can be installed on Windows client PCs to provide remote access to database maintenance and reporting functionality normally only available through the 9700 server. EMC Client allows sites to perform tasks like daily database maintenance, control panel access, and credit card utilities away from the server. RMC Client is primarily used for remote report writing. The document provides step-by-step instructions for installing each client and configuring local printers for report printing through RMC Client.

EMC Client Install

9700 3.0 Enterprise Management Console (EMC) provides all the functionality
as EMC on the 9700 server, offering a site great flexibility of daily database
maintenance without having to access the 9700 server.
EMC Client has the Configurator functionality of RMC Client in 9700 2.x, but
now EMC incorporates Control Panel, Audit Trail and the Credit Card utilities
that in 9700 2.x had to be run from the server, providing greater site control
away from the server.

EMC Client can be installed on client PCs running:

• Windows 2003 Server
• Windows XP Home or Professional
• Windows 2000 Professional or Server
Older versions of Windows are not supported.

To install EMC Client

1. From client PC, close all open programs, open Internet Explorer and go to
the address: http://servername:8080/emc where servername is the host name of
the 9700 server.

2. On the Security Warning prompt, select “I understand the security risk and
wish to continue” and select Next.

3. On the Welcome prompt, select Next.

4. For the Host EMC Computer Name prompt, enter the host name of the
9700 server and select Next.

5. Choose the database type that the 9700 system is running, either SQL or
Oracle, and select Next.

6. Review the settings, and select Next when ready to continue.

7. Reboot when complete.

The client PC will now have a MICROS Systems 9700 program group containing the
shortcut to launch EMC Client.
RMC Client Install
While most 9700 functionality in 3.0 has been incorporated in EMC, RMC is
still used for Report Writer and Autosequencer. RMC Client will be primarily
used for Report Writer on site PCs. RMC Client in 9700 3.0 installs with the
same routine in 3.0 and it does in 9700 2.x.

RMC Client can be installed on client PCs running:

• Windows 2003 Server
• Windows XP Home or Professional
• Windows 2000 Professional or Server
• Windows NT (Note that NT is supported for RMC Client, but not EMC Client.)
Older versions of Windows are not supported.

To install RMC Client

1. Insert the 9700 3.0 CD, highlight MICROS 9700 Hospitality Management
System, and select Setup.

2. On the Welcome screen, select Next.

3. Enter User Name and Company Name, and select Next.

4. Component Selection may default to all choices. Press the Clear All
button, then check only Remote Management Console, and select Next.

5. Choose an installation folder, or accept the default and select Next.

6. Review the settings, and select Next when ready to continue.

7. Enter either the Computer Name (host name) or IP Address of the 9700
server, and select Next when ready to continue.

8. Reboot when complete.

The client PC will now have a MICROS Systems 9700 program group containing the
shortcut to launch RMC Client.

NOTE: Any Service Pack applied to the 9700 server will also need to be
applied to each RMC Client PC.
Installing Printers for the RMC Client

1. Open the directory C:\Program Files\MICROS\RMC\Printers.

2. There are two files, PrintPortrait.txt and PrintLandscape.txt.

Copy both files and rename both. You will rename these to
represent a printer location at your site, such as PrintOffice or
PrintDesk. (For this example, we will assume you have two files:
PrintOfficeLandscape.txt and PrintOfficePortrait.txt.

3. Open PrintOfficePortrait.txt.

4. You will see the following line: -d @MicrosDefaultPrinter –lines

90 –cols 150 –port.

5. The section “@MicrosDefaultPrinter” needs to be renamed. The

name that should be typed here is the name of your printer that
has already been installed on your machine. If your printer name is
a single word, for instance “OfficePrinter”, the line should look like
this: -d OfficePrinter –lines 90 –cols 150 –port. Notice that quotes
are not needed around OfficePrinter.

6. If your printer’s name is not a single word, for instance “HP

Laser Jet 4”, then the line should look like this: -d “HP Laser Jet 4”
–lines 90 –cols 150 –port. Notice that quotes are needed around
“HP Laser Jet 4”.

7. Open PrintOfficeLandscape.txt.

8. Edit the @MicrosDefaultPrinter in the same manner as the other

file.

9. To add multiple printers, simply copy the file and alter the string
as described above. When you are in Report Writer and press print,
the RMC will provide a list for all the printers configured on your PC.

NOTE:
If you are attempting to print to a remote networked printer you
will want to use the “Quotation Marks” and the full path ie.
“\\ugactrptrsrv3\it_training_5550”
