1. What are the qualities of a Guidance Counselor or Facilitator?


Inorder for a Guidance Counselor or Facilitator to be effective, he/she should possess
certain qualities such as:

 Being an active listener


 able to keep secrets (confidentiality in counseling is very important)
 unconditional positive regard towards others
 non-judgmental
 accepting of others
 flexible
 has a sense of organization
 open-minded
 patient
 able to communicate
 knows well her/his values

2. What are their educational qualifications?

 Should finish AB/BS Psychology (undergrad)


 Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling
 Should pass the Licensure Exam for Guidance Counselors
(one cannot take the licensure without finishing the Masters Degree)

3. What are their Guidance Services?

 This service support and facilitate students’ needs in developing and managing their
personal-social, educational and career goals and plans.
 It involves the provision of personalize direction, assistance, and monitoring.
 The activities are delivered in group or individual basis.

3. RESPONSIVE SERVICES
 This service includes counseling, consultation, and referral activities to meet the
immediate needs and concerns of students
 This is done through :
-Individual/Group Counseling- Walk-in or Call –in
-Agency and Specialist Referrals
-Boarding House Visitation
-Enrichment Sessions of:
Students with Special needs (Scholars, Sons and Daughters of OFW, Single Parent
Students and Married Students, Working Students, Students with Disability, MALE
students and Honors’ Society)
 COUNSELING- Counseling is the “heart” of Guidance. An avenue to help students in their
problems/ concerns (group counseling, individual counseling and consultation with the
counselor)
 JOB Placement Program
 Study Circle Program (Remedial Program)- Students who have difficulty in subjects were
identified and offered tutorials through the Study Circle Program for free.

4. SYSTEM SUPPORT (Program Management)


 involves the administrative and management activities necessary to support and
enhance guidance program.

4. What are some of the concerns/problems encountered in the guidance office?

 Multi-tasking (counselors cannot really focus on counseling because there are other
tasks to be accomplished
 Misconception about the office (students think that when they are called at the office
they will be punished) that’s why there is a need to educate the students about
guidance and counseling
