GAD-based: Ic Cebu

The document provides a lesson plan on teaching students about the characteristics of sound, including pitch, loudness, and quality. It involves engaging students through a singing activity to highlight missing words. Students will then explore pictures and a video showing how sound is produced, focusing on the properties of pitch and volume. They will identify examples of high and low pitch sounds, as well as loud and soft sounds. Finally, the teacher will give a PowerPoint presentation explaining how the human voice box produces sound by vibrating the vocal cords, and discussing the characteristics and properties of sound in more detail.

II. Focused Learning Competency

S7LT-IIIe-8: explain sound production in the human voice box, and how pitch, loudness and
quality vary from one person to another
III. Focused GAD-based Principle to be Integrated
respect each others quality of voice without stereotyping
IV. Intended Learning Outcomes
Knowledge differentiate the characteristics of sound: pitch, loudness and quality

Skills explain the process of the human voice box to create a sound

Attitude employ enthusiasm in accomplishing the activities

Values show appreciation on the importance of sound in our life

V. Learning Content/s The Characteristics of Sound

Concept Sound is created through the vibration caused by

objects. The human voice box create a sound through
the vocal cords that can be found behind the larynx. Air
from the lungs moved out towards the vocal cords
causing it to vibrate thus creates a sound. Pitch is the
measurement of how flat/ low or sharp/ high the sound
is. It is the frequency of the sound wave. The higher the
frequency the higher the pitch and vice versa.
Loudness/volume is how a loud or soft the sound is. It is
determined by the amplitude of the sound wave. A
larger amplitude means a louder sound and vice versa.
Loudness is also determined by the sensitivity of the ear.
Quality is how complex a sound is. A person with a thick
vocal cords produces a lower pitch voice and a person
with thin vocal cords produces a high pitch voice.

2. Explore
(23 minutes)
A. THINK ME UP! (Individual activity) There will be pictures with words
that will be posted on the board and the students will be asked about
their ideas or observation.

Characteristics of Sound

ASK:
1. What have you observe on the first picture?
Possible Answer: The drum was being hit by the stick causing it to
vibrate.
2. What have you observe on the second picture?
Possible Answer: A siren has a high pitch, pitch has something to
do on how sharp a sound is.
3. What have you observe on the third picture?
Possible Answer: There are two speakers emphasizing high and
low volume. Loudness has something to do
with the volume of the sound.
4. What have you observe on the fourth picture?
Possible Answer: The picture shows two illustration about the
quality of sound. Either complex or not.

B. WATCH, JOT DOWN AND SHARE. (Individual activity) A video clip will
be presented. Jot down important notes being shown. Answer the guide
questions in a meta card.
https://www.turtlediary.com/video/how-is-sound-produced.html

Guide Questions:

1. What is sound?
Possible Answer: Sound is a form of energy that is produced
through the vibrations of an object.
2. What are the properties of sound presented?
Possible Answer: The properties of sound presented are pitch and
volume.
3. Differentiate pitch from volume.
Possible Answer: Pitch is the measurement of how flat or sharp
the sound is while volume tells how loud or soft
a sound is.
4. Give two examples of a high pitch sound and low pitch sound.
Possible Answer: High pitch sound= violin and siren
Low pitch sound= human heart beat and lions
roar
5. Give two examples of a loud sound and soft sound.
Possible Answer: Loud sound= airplane taking off and car honking
Soft sound= whisper and wind blowing

3. Explain POWERPOINT PRESENTATION. With the aid of powerpoint, discussion of

(10 minutes) the characteristics and properties of sound and how do the human
voice box creates a sound will be done.

THE HOW. With the picture given, explain how do our voice box creates
a sound.
Explanation:

The human voice box create a sound through the vocal cords that
can be found behind the larynx. Air from the lungs moved out towards
the vocal cords causing it to vibrate thus creates a sound.

4. Elaborate RE-THINK AND WRITE. (Group Activity)

(10 minutes)
Directions: With your groupmates:
1. Re-think the three properties of sound and write its definition .
2. Try to think about the what happens to our ears if we will hear
sounds that are very loud.
3. Do high pitch sound can be a soft sound and loud sound? Why?
Jot down your answers in a manila paper and choose one
representative to present your work.

Possible Answers:
1. Pitch is the measurement of how flat/ low or sharp/ high the
sound is. It is the frequency of the sound wave. The higher the
frequency the higher the pitch and vice versa.
Loudness/volume is how a loud or soft the sound is. It is determined by
the amplitude of the sound wave. A larger amplitude means a louder
sound and vice versa. Loudness is also determined by the sensitivity of
the ear. Quality is how complex a sound is.
2. Our ears might be damaged causing a hearing loss.
3. Yes, high pitch sound can be a soft sound and loud sound
because pitch and loudness/ volume are two different characteristics or
properties of sound.
5. Evaluate ASSESS YOURSELF. (Individual activity)
(5 minutes) A. Direction: Choose your answer on the box. Write it before the
number.
