MBA 641 Group Assignment Edited Getacher

The document is a group assignment report submitted by six students to their professor for an operational research course. It includes two multi-facility location problems asking the students to find the initial feasible solutions using different methods and test for optimality. The first problem involves distributing soft drinks from three factories to four demand centers, while the second deals with supplying five warehouses from four factories.

1. MOHA Soft Drink Company is distributing its products from its three factories

located at Bure, Dessie and Hawassa to four demanding centers: Addis Ababa,
Mekelle, Dire Dawa and Adama. The demand pattern for a product at four consumer
centers: Addis Ababa, Mekelle, Dire Dawa and Adama are 5000 bottles, 7000 bottles,
4000 bottles and 2000 bottles respectively. The supply for these centers is from
three factories Bure, Dessie and Hawassa. The capacities for the factories are 3000
bottles, 6000 bottles and 7000 bottles respectively. The unit transportation cost in
Birr from a factory to consumer center is given below in the matrix.

2. GONZE Company has four factories that supply to five warehouses. The variable
cost of manufacturing and shipment of one ton of product from each factory to each
warehouse are shown in the matrix given below, Factory capacities and warehouse
requirements are shown in the margin.

B. Find initial feasible solution using Least Cost Method.

C. Find the basic feasible solution by using Vogel’s approximation method.
D. Test for optimality using the stepping stone method?
E. Test for optimality using the modified distribution method.

Solution
Given :-

Since the above given problem is not balanced, we add a dummy column; i.e Sine
total supply is greater than total demand by 20 units, add a dummy column with 0 unit
cost and 20 units of demand. See the following table
