Tutorial #1
BEL/BEX/BCT II/I
1. Find current i using Nodal analysis. Also find the voltage across the current sources.
[i= -17/61 A, voltage of 2A= 11.15 V, voltage of 4i = -1.39V]
2. Find Vx using Nodal Analysis.
[Vx=0]
3. Find the voltage across 4Ω resistor using (i) Nodal and (ii) Mesh Analysis.
[Vo= 2.96<-2.91]
4. Find V1 and V2 using Nodal Analysis and hence find the current through capacitor.
[V1 =2.46<130.69, V2 = 1.23<167.48, Ic= 1.648<-165.85]
5. Find Vs so that current in 10 Ω resistor is (i) 5A (ii) 0 A
6. Find Vs so that current in 10 Ω resistor is 0 A using Nodal and Mesh Analysis.
7. Find the active and reactive component of the current taken by a series circuit consisting of a
coil of inductance 0.1 H & resistance of 8 Ω and a capacitor of 120 µF, connected to a 240 V,
50Hz supply main. Find the value of capacitor that has to be connected in parallel with the
above circuit so that the power factor of entire circuit is unity.
[21.81 A, 13.36 A, 180 µF]
8. Compute the value of C which results in resonance for the circuit shown below when f= 2500/π
Hz.
[C=18 µF or 138 µF]
9. For the circuit shown in figure, find the frequency at which the whole circuit will be at
resonance. If the capacitor and inductor are interchanged, what will be the value of resonance
frequency?
[(i) ω= 0.5 rad/s (ii) ω= 1 rad/s]
10. A 220 V, 100 Hz AC source supplies a series LCR circuit with a capacitor and a coil. If the coil has
50 mΩ resistance and 5 mH inductance, find at resonance frequency of 100 Hz, what is the
value of capacitor. Also calculate Q factor, band width and half power frequencies of the circuit.
[C= 507 µF,Q=62.83, f1=99.205 Hz ,f2=100.795 Hz]
