Manual Drawing LAB 8 PDF

This document provides instructions for manually drawing the orthographic projections and dimensions of a gland for a stuffing box. It describes dividing the drawing sheet, using first angle projection to draw the front, side, and top views of the model, and using aligned dimensions with a consistent formatting approach. Key steps include measuring the physical model, laying out the sheet, drawing the projections with outline lines, and adding dimensions with extension lines, leader lines, and arrowheads placed according to guidelines.

Engineering Graphics and Drawing (Manual Lab)

GLAND FOR STUFFING BOX
Procedure

 Clean your drawing instruments and drawing board.

 Attach your drawing sheet on your drawing board.
 Draw the border line and title block as described in previous sheets.
 The graphic view of model is shown in figure 1.
 Model is available, so measure its length, width and height.
 Find the length, width and height of model.
 Measure the length of horizontal border line (X) and then measure the vertical distance of border
line (Y) excluding the length of title block.
 Use the following formulae to divide your sheet.
𝑌−(𝐻+𝑊) 𝑋−(𝐿+𝑊)
y= 3
and x= 3
 Divide your sheet as shown in figure 2.

 First angle projection is used to draw the orthographic projection of model.

 After drawing the projection, give dimension to the figure.
 H pencil is used to draw the outline of projections.

Procedure to draw the dimensions

 Aligned dimension has been used to give dimensions to projections.
 In the aligned system the dimension is placed perpendicular to the dimension line.
 The dimensions should be placed near the middle and above.
 Every dimension must be given, but none should be given more than once.
 2H pencil should be used to draw dimensions.
 Mutual crossing of dimension lines and dimensioning between hidden lines should be avoided.
 Never give dimension inside the view.
 Dimension lines should be drawn at least 8 mm Away from the outlines
 1 mm gap is placed between outline and extension line. The extension line is extended 3 mm
beyond dimension line.
 Arrowhead is placed at the end of dimension line, with instructions as shown in figure 3.
