EDSA People Power Revolution
Crowds of people gathered in EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos
Avenue) to stand up for dictator and fight for democracy. Once, EDSA was a historical place and not a traffic area of vehicles. EDSA People Power Revolution happened on February 22, 1986. It wa a bloodless revolution, marked a history a one as one of the national and most memorable event that has been on the hearts of Filipinos, specially to those who was there on the main event. Military, soldiers and Armed forces together with their weapons are the weapons of the government, while prayers and faith was the only weapons of our beloved brave Filipino citizens who was there to recover our freedom from former President Ferdinand Marcos. The reason why was the People Power Revolution happened it is because of the lack of freedom, life threatening and abuses caused by the hands of President Marcos. According to the articles that I have read, and videos that I have watched, President Marcos violated human rights since the tyrannical. And even the cause of the death of former Senator Benigno Aquino, Sr. was been accused to our former President. All the blame was into him. And after Benigno’s death, Filipinos showed their strength to fight and to win back our freedom and the democracy. And after that Marcos was arrested for his own caprice.
I’ve watched many different videos and footages about EDSA
People Power Revolution, and I saw how people of the Philippines longing for our freedom to live freely in our country against dictatorial. I saw how brave they are and how wide their faith was just to win back the freedom that we wanted. But then, many of the people regrets that they joined the EDSA People Power Revolution. And because at that time, they don’t know what’s happening and didn’t saw the sacrifices of former President Marcos for our beloved country, because Filipinos, way back, only wants the freedom and didn’t know what was happening. Unlike us now, we all have the access to know more things about what is happening to our surroundings we can now have the knowledge to decide and think. Still, the result of EDSA People Power Revolution was great. Questions: How can reason be translated into action? Reason can be translated into action in many different ways, I can connect it in the People Power Revolution which reasoning is the reason why Filipinos made an action to bring back the freedom from President Marcos. Filipinos wanted to be free, and reasoning won’t do anything and the only thing they can do is to make an action to win back our freedom. And that reason turns into action. Explain: If there were no intellect, there would be no will. As I read the comments of those who joined the People Power Revolution. I observed that some of those who participated the revolution regrets that they joined. Because they realized that President Marcos was really a great president. And if there would be no intellect, the there would be no result or good outcome. Maybe there is, but its not as what you’ve expected. And so you better have knowledge to be successful. What is Social Contract and is it reflected in the People power? Probably, yes! You can connect and reflect it. Because People Power Revolutions is what does the Social Contract means. And Rousseau’s Social contract can be applied or it could relate to this modern day condition and also and also that has been observed during the People Power Revolution. And according to the book of Rousseau, “Man is born free: and everywhere he is in chains” it tries to explain that we should be free but still should know our boundaries or our limitations and its risks. And we should remember that a great power comes from great responsibility, each person should surrender the freedom willingly for greater safety.
