The chart above describes the relationship between US Box Office Receipts (in millions) and the Year of
Release. The trendline depicts as the decades pass the US Box office Receipts reduces. This can be
attributed to inflation over the years.

The scatterplot above shows the relationship between the budget of movies and the World Box Office
Receipts. In the bottom left portion of the chart, the data points are close together. This indicates a
strong correlation between Budget and World Box Office receipts. On the contrary, as we move along
the X-axis, the data points are more scattered indicating a weaker correlation. It is important to note
that correlation between these variables does not necessarily mean causation. That is, the budget does
not necessarily impact the World Box Office receipts. There could be additional variables impacting the
box office receipts, other than the budget of the movie.

The above histogram indicates the number of movies that fall under the different ranges of US Box
office receipts. Most movies fall under the range of $500-$600 million. There are 2 outliers in the data
above, that fall in the range of $1500 to $1700 million, namely Star Wars and Gone with the Wind who
earned $1426 million and $1650 million respectively.

The above 2 pivot tables show the number of movies within each combination of genre and rating. The
first table shows the data from all top 50 movies, while the second table only shows movies that were
released post 1980. In the first table, the most represented combination of genre and rating is Animated
and G rating. In the second table, the most represented combination is Sci Fi/Fantasy and PG-13 rating.
This shows that since 1980, the preferences of movie watchers has seen a significant shift. This can be
attributed to the advent of superhero movies like Batman and Superman, and most recently the Marvel
and DC Comics franchise.

Please note that the figures have been rounded off the 2 decimal points. The highest average of US Box
Office receipts is for Drama and G rating. The top movies that contribute to the high Box office receipts
for this combination are Gone with the Wind and Ten Commandments.
