Differentiated Lesson Planning

The document provides a content standard, ELA standard, content language objective, and identifies the reading processes and strategies that would be used in a before, during, and after lesson using the BDA framework. Specifically, it focuses on teaching students to compute the area of a triangle using coordinates. The before lesson would introduce the formula and examples, the during would have students practice problems in groups with teacher support, and the after would have students complete an independent problem and explain their steps to demonstrate understanding.

Differentiated Lesson Planning

Using the resources provided in this week’s lesson, identify a content and ela standard. Write a
content language objective reflecting both the content and how students will learn the material.
Then identify the reading process and strategy you would use for each component of a BDA
lesson.

Content Standard
(G.G-GPE.B.7 U) Use coordinates to compute perimeters of polygons and areas of triangles
and rectangles.
ELA Standard
Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are
appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade‐specific expectations for writing types are
defined in standards 1–3 above. (9‐10.W.4)
a. Produce clear and coherent functional writing (e.g., formal letters, experiments,
notes/messages, labels, timelines, graphs/tables, procedures, invitations, envelopes, maps,
captions, diagrams) in which the development and organization are appropriate to the task,
purpose, and audience. (AZ.9‐10.W.4)

Content Language Objective

(what will they learn and how will they demonstrate their understanding)
Question: Find the area of triangle whose vertices are (-3,-9) (-1,6) and (3,9).
Students will learn the formula on how to compute a triangles area using given coordinates.
They will demonstrate their learning by writing out the steps and formula they are using to get
to their answer.

Using the BDA framework, identify the reading process you would focus on before, during, and
after a lesson. Then select an appropriate strategy for each process.
