INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Information Technology
The study or use of systems (especially computers and telecommunications) for
storing, retrieving, and sending information.

It refers to anything related to computing technology, such as networking,

hardware, software, the Internet, or the people that work with these technologies.

Information technology is the technology involving the development,

implementation, maintenance and use of computer hardware, software and
networks for the processing and distribution of data.
COMPUTER
Computer

A computer is an electronic machine that can be programmed

to accept data (input), process it into useful information
(output) and store it in a storage media for future use.
FUNCTIONS OF
COMPUTER
Functions of Computer
A computer has four functions/Operations
1) Accepts Data---------- Input

2) Process Data---------- Processing

3) Produces Output----- Output

4) Stores Result/Data---- Storage

DATA & INFORMATION
Data & Information
Raw facts, figures, events and transactions are called data. (Names,
numbers, symbols, images etc which can be processed by a
computer).

process and work more.
Information: processed data which have some meaning.
Hence information is: Processed facts, Meaningful, Transformed from
data.

ANALOGUE VS DIGITAL
COMPUTERS
Analogue vs Digital Computers
Analog Computer is a computing device that works
on continuous range of values . The analog
computers give approximate results.
It generally deals with physical variables such as
voltage, pressure, temperature, speed, etc.
e.g: Voltmeters, Speedometers, Thermometer,
Analogue Clock

Digital Computer operates on digital data such as

numbers. It uses binary number system in which
there are only two digits 0 and 1.
e.g: Calculator, Digital Clock.
Analogue vs Digital Computers

Hybrid Computer:
This computer combines the features of both analog and digital computers.
They handle data in both quantities and variable.
