As a little kid every adult asks the question, “What do you want to be when you grow
up?” for me the answer was a singer, TV or movie star, or a princess until one day my answer
changed and became permanent; I decided I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. Learning new
things had always come easily to me and as a little kid I thought it was easy for everyone, until
my kindergarten teacher asked me to help another student with their math. That was the moment
everything fell into place; helping that student understand the material, seeing the understanding
in their face, the sense of pride and accomplishment I felt, I knew that’s what I wanted to do with
my life. Years of helping with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and in the nursery at my
church only solidified my desire to teach more, especially with younger children. When my mom
became an aide for a special needs pre-k class and eventually a teacher for the same type of
class, it added to my reasons to become a teacher as she has always been my role model.
Currently, I am a student at State College of Florida: Manatee-Sarasota, working on my
Associate of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. I look forward to learning more
about teaching young children. I completed my Child Development Associate (CDA)
certification in July of 2020, allowing me teach ages 5 and under until I have to renew it in 2023.
I have also completed my First Aid certification for infants and children from the American
Heart Association in March of 2020, this states I am CPR trained for infants and children until
2022 when I have to renew my certification. I hope to acquire a pre-k aide position in Manatee
County in the near future.
I plan to continue my education at State College of Florida: Manatee-Sarasota until I
receive my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education, as Early Childhood
Education is one of the few Bachelor degree programs offered at State College of Florida:
Manatee-Sarasota. When I graduate, I plan on becoming a kindergarten teacher in Manatee
County and remain in that position until I retire.
