ECA Lab Session: Mesh Analysis Mesh Analysis

The document discusses mesh analysis, which is a method for determining unknown currents in an electrical circuit. It involves identifying meshes and labeling mesh currents, observing current flow through elements in terms of mesh currents, writing mesh equations by applying Kirchhoff's voltage law and Ohm's law, and solving the mesh equations to obtain the mesh currents. The conclusion states that mesh analysis allows calculating currents in a circuit and verifying results theoretically and practically.

Mesh Analysis
Mesh Analysis
Aim: To perform and verify Mesh Analysis.

Theory:
The Mesh-Current Method, also known as the Loop Current
Method, is quite similar to the Branch Current method in that it uses
simultaneous equations, Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law, and Ohm’s Law to
determine unknown currents in a network. It differs from the Branch
Current method in that it does not use Kirchhoff’s Current Law, and it
is usually able to solve a circuit with less unknown variables and less
simultaneous equations, which is especially nice if you’re forced to
solve without a calculator.

Procedure of Mesh Analysis
Procedure of Mesh Analysis:

Step 1 − Identify the meshes and label the mesh currents in either
clockwise or anti-clockwise direction.

Step 2 − Observe the amount of current that flows through each

element in terms of mesh currents.

Step 3 − Write mesh equations to all meshes. Mesh equation is

obtained by applying KVL first and then Ohm’s law.

Step 4 − Solve the mesh equations obtained in Step 3 in order to

get the mesh currents.
