Classroom Layout

The tables in the classroom are arranged so that all students face the whiteboard for direct instruction. Small group areas are placed near the teacher's desk so the teacher can easily supervise small group work or individual student work. The classroom layout provides visibility of all student areas from the teacher's desk and designated teacher stations. Motivational posters encourage reading, content mastery, and future goals to keep students engaged.

Classroom Layout Rationale

The tables of six are directly in front of the whiteboard. The tables were not set up

parallel to each other, rather they all face the whiteboard. This set up gives access to the

whiteboard to all students during direct instruction. The small groups are placed to the right of

the teacher’s desk. If small groups are not teacher-led, then the teacher is free to walk around and

have the desk close by. If students are doing individual work then the teacher can supervise from

two areas, either the desk or the teacher station to the left. The teacher has a view of the desks,

materials station, and library. The teacher station provides a space where the teacher can work

with individual students that might need help. The computer station was placed in between the

teacher’s desk and teacher station so that the teacher can supervise the students. There is plenty

of space between stations and student desks.

The students will have motivational posters on the walls by the library to encourage them

to read. Throughout the classroom, there will be different posters related to the content that will

be gone over during the school year. These posters will be placed there to try to keep content

relevant to students. There will also be posters with information that will help students such as

elements of English and Punctuation. By the teacher’s desk, there will be paraphernalia for

different colleges to keep the student’s mind on the future. This will help the students keep their

eyes on the goal.
