The Democratic Republic of the Congo lies in the Equatorial


region and has a hot and wet type of climate. It is the second largest
country in Africa with capital at Kinshasa.
Being situated in the Equatorial region, a large part of the
country is covered with rainforests. Trees grow very tall and form a
canopy with a dense undergrowth of creepers and shrubs. In some
areas where the climate is not so hot and wet, Savannah grasslands
are found.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has a rich and varied
wildlife and is rightly called the ‘Natural Zoo of the World’. The main
occupation of the people is farming and mining. Though a number of
tribes live here, the Bantus and Pygmies are the main tribes.
Water transport is important. Matadi is the chief seaport and
Kinshasa is an important river port.
