Exam Answer Key

1. Mathematics is important in everyday life as numbers are connected to everything we do from birthdates to times. Body measurements can also be expressed mathematically through ratios. 2. In the early 19th century, Carl Friedrich Gauss called mathematics the "Queen of Sciences" because it was successful at explaining physical reality. Fractals are geometric patterns that repeat at different scales and can be seen in structures like snowflakes and flowers. 3. The golden ratio and Fibonacci sequence describe patterns found in nature related to growth and form, from flower petals to spiral galaxies. Mathematics involves concepts like numbers, sets, logic, and functions to describe abstract and applied concepts.

Mathematics in the modern world

TEST I.

1. Numbers are very important to our life because e our life revolves in numbers
since the day we were born, from the very beginning we are born in a day with a
date and that starts the connection of numbers to us. We use numbers in
checking time, date and almost everything we do numbers are indirect and
directly connected to us.
2. Body and Facial Measurement

Toes to knees
L1= 26/1.618
L1= 16.069
L1= 16.07

Knees to legs
L2= 16.07/1.618
L2= 9.932
L2= 9.93
3. In the early 19th century, the noted German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss
called mathematics “Queen of Sciences” Because it was so successful at
uncovering the nature of physical reality.
4. The definition stated that, it is curve or geometric figure that commonly have
“Fractional dimension “

A snowflakes- If you look at a snowflake closely, you can see tiny

branches of ice that stretch out in different directions. On each of these
branches other branches of Ice extend. ... This is how snowflakes contain
fractals. Each snowflake is different yet a repeating pattern occurs on
each one.
5.
 Flower petals
 Seed heads
 Spiral galaxy
 Fingers
 Pinecones
-This five objects has different sizes and structures but they both have the patterns that
follows Fibonacci sequence and golden ratio.
II.
1. Golden Ratio
Putting it as simply as we can (eek!), the Golden Ratio (also known as
the Golden Section, Golden Mean, Divine Proportion or Greek letter Phi) exists when a
line is divided into two parts and the longer part (a) divided by the smaller part (b) is
equal to the sum of (a) + (b) divided by (a), which both equal 1.618.
2. Patterns
 is a sequence of numbers that has been created based on a formula or rule called a
pattern rule. Pattern rules can use one or more mathematical operations to describe the
relationship between consecutive numbers in the pattern. There are two primary
categories of numerical patterns.
3. Mathematics
the abstract science of number, quantity, and space. Mathematics may be studied in its
own right ( pure mathematics ), or as it is applied to other disciplines such as physics
and engineering ( applied mathematics ).
4. Sets
 set is a gathering together into a whole of definite, distinct objects of our perception or
of our thought—which are called elements of the set. Sets are conventionally denoted
with capital letters. Sets A and B are equal if and only if they have precisely the same
elements.
5. Functions
A function is a relation for which each value from the set the first components of the
ordered pairs is associated with exactly one value from the set of second components of
the ordered pair.
6. Binary operations
In mathematics, a binary operation or dyadic operation is a calculation that combines
two elements (called operands) to produce another element. ... Examples include the
familiar arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication.
7. Mathematical logic/symbolic logic
 is the study of formal reasoning based upon statements or propositions.
8. Truth table
In math logic, a truth table is a chart of rows and columns showing the truth value
(either “T” for True or “F” for False) of every possible combination of the given
statements (usually represented by uppercase letters P, Q, and R) as operated by
logical connectives.
9. Tautology
A tautology is a logical statement in which the conclusion is equivalent to the premise.
More colloquially, it is formula in propositional calculus which is always true
10. Quantifiers
Quantifiers are words, expressions, or phrases that indicate the number of elements
that a statement pertains to. In mathematical logic, there are two quantifiers: 'there
exists' and 'for all.
