Types of Benchmarking

1. Internal Benchmarking
Warehousing and shipping of products from one site of a company, will be compared to
warehousing and shipping of a product from a unique warehouse of the corporate. It is
considered internal benchmarking because it is a comparison within the firm.

2. Competitive Benchmarking
Buzzmo, is one of the example of competitive benchmarking because you can see the
most popular content in your activity broken down by keyword.

3. Functional Benchmarking
A local resort benchmarks its brand recognition against local gym as that’s the only data
they can find. It is functional benchmarking because it is compares the brand recognition of each
business regardless of industry.

4. Generic Benchmarking
A resort organization’s accounting department would look at the accounting department
of a service organization that has been identified as having the fastest operations. It is considered
generic benchmarking because it adopt the innovative process of industry leaders in commonly-
held practices.
